Shells Diner - AUSTINMER

We gave up on the long queues outside of the larger hotels etc. and tried this small eatery for the first time. Are we glad that we did!!The fish tacos were really scrumptious as was the fresh flat head and chips. The salads were well dressed and tasty with a number of ingredients. The tacos were nicely warmed.Service was pretty quick considering the number of clients in the early Sunday afternoon.Seats are available inside and outside.

I work around the corner and eat here regularly. This is so much more then a deep fried feed. The owner (a trained chef) always has something new and exciting to offer, corned beef reuban on rye, flathead tacos, quesadas to name a few. I walk in, say g'day, grab a seat and the chef brings whatever he chooses. Always great, loads a variety. To good to keep all to myself.

Beautiful place, gorgeous decor and extremely friendly and helpful staff. I think the owner was there at the time that I ordered and he was so happy and bubbly in his Hawaiian tshirt! He seems like the kinda guy anyone would be happy to work for! I got a plain hamburger in a combo and it was delicious! The chips were great too, I could tell the oil isn't a cheap brand and it gets changed regularly. Great money value for what you get!

I had battered flathead tails and chips with their house made tartare and it was everything fish and chips should be: light crispy batter, moist fresh fish that tasted like the sea, crispy chips fried in clean oil. The serving was super generous for the price too. I also had a fish burger recently from here with friends and again the fish was superb, although I wouldn't have minded some tomato on there. The mayo they use though is good - rich and creamy.

Great retro atmosphere and good coffee and food. We love the double egg and bacon roll deal with large coffee for only $11. Friendly service is the real bonus.
