Dinesh Restaurant - Auroville

Of course, you get something to eat and most of the things do not even taste bad but the standard is Indian! Even as it looks like being an Aurovillian restaurant and the prices are the same or higher as in Auroville restaurants around, it is not in any way orientating or can match Auroville standards.

If you want to eat cheap this is the place in Auroville. But then it does come with it's problems. Being right next to an unpaved main road has it's problems. Once inside you are seated under the trees or next to the kitchen where there is a covered space with 4 to 5 tables. There is always a sense of confusion as when we went the men folk were out and the ladies were in charge. Now they were in charge of the kitchen and they were not very happy to have to come out take the orders and then have to go and cook. we could here people come up order something and about 15 minutes of waiting be told it is not there. It can get pretty busy during dinner and lunch. If you don't go with much expectations then things will be fine. The food we ordered though toook time came out well. We had Paratha's, chicken curry and kothu paratha. The pricing is very reasonable. Can be cleaner.

It's right on the road so it's dusty during the dry season and I suspect dust is the main ingredient in the food. Don,t bother just croos the rad for much better food at a much nier place served by somebody who cares. These guys don't.

There was a very well cooked insect in my kothu parota. I'm happy the guy at least did't charge me for it, and the insect looked crunchy - but I'd rather not eat here again, thank you.

A small eatery in the middle of wilderness.. I could never imagine I would be in for a surprising treat.. We went to this place as it was late in the night (by Auroville standards) and we'll not find any other place open.. We ordered a fried fish, veg biriyani, parotta with curry and chicken curry.. The food was spicy and yum.. The place is run by the family of the local villager.. The location is lovely and prices are low.. The seating is basic and some space is under the trees in the open.. Must give it a try if you are around these parts..
