This place is not good enough to act as elitist as it does. We didn’t have a code for the door because we didn’t know it was needed. All the speak easy places in my city are open door and less gimicky. We all showed up at the door and followed a small group inside. Upon entering we were hounded about whether we had a code or not. We said we didn’t and the lady rolled her eyes and asked how we got in. We told her we followed a group and she said that wasn’t the process but she would allow it. The elitist vibe didn’t stop there. I was told that I would have to wear a poorly fitting, worn out, and cheap suit jacket because my jacket “doesn’t have a lapel, and isn’t allowed”. My jacket was a brand new sleek navy bomber jacket matched with my outfit. I wasn’t dressed poorly I can promise you (came from a fancy dinner) So to be polite to my friend party I decided to sit and drink my drink with this stiff, and oversized suit jacket for the rest of the time because of some outdated and weird rule. Not to mention we were one of two parties in the place so who was I harming? After this, the bartender seemed snobby with us telling us he was the best daiquiri maker in all the land and would choose that if he were us. I’m not a fan of sweet drinks so I chose a different drink. He seemed slighted. My friend was trying to get a sense of the menu as she doesn’t drink cocktails often. He interrupted her and then told her to “let him drive the train because he knows what she will like.” He was wrong, but she was being polite and decided to drink the drink she didn’t choose nor did she like. We left after one drink. All around a strange and uncomfortable experience. Gimicky, snobbish, rude. An overplayed type of speakeasy that needs to work on their drink quality and their hospitality before acting so high brow.
We had a great time! The drinks were amazing, and the staff was very attentive.
Showed up, great gentleman at the door, exclusive-feeling entry, open main floor, oversized couches, a smoked old fashion that shuts it down (she also thought so)-followed by one that wasn't great, change in bartenders? Server was great, loud in the room, lots of people, but it only sounded like it, felt more intimate in my two couch area with just the two of us on one couch. This is an ATL experience that I am looking forward to having again. When are we going?
Cool place. The drinks are good. It is a comfortable place for a smoke. Sticks are expensive though.
