Update Visit This restaurant serves my type of comfort food. There's a lot to choose from on the menu. They still have customers fill out an order form like they did back in the day. Service is fast. Servers are friendly and recommend the best dishes. And, the prices are very reasonable.
Second visit and it felt like I went into the wrong place. My wife and I first went here during memorial weekend a few years back. We remember a bustling restaurant during the holiday. We remember piping hot food, fresh and cooked perfectly. A friendly server who interacted with us and guided us through the paper order form. I believe we romanticized that trip because our second visit back today didn’t live up to that expectation. I’ll start with Mary Mac’s has got to be the only place we didn’t have to pay for parking in Atlanta, free parking in their private lot. The ambience was very quiet, not much going on. The server not very friendly but professional. You can tell he’s been there a long time, people kept looking for him. The food started out with these really overfried and dry hushpuppies. We sent these back only to receive them towards the end nearly the same color. The Mac and cheese also had this very dry and burnt layer of shredded cheese on top, not very appetizing. Thankfully I had the four piece chicken because the three leg would’ve been too little as the chicken pieces are a bit small. The chicken saved the day along with the whipped potato’s, those were good also with the Iced Tea. We noticed a lot of the furniture is worn and corners of the walls are dirty. We began to question at what point do certain things go from “old school, charming, antique” to just plain wrong? For example our red table cover had holes in it and then my wife scooted up her chair and the legs bent. We’re not sure about these answers. We wish them the best, thanks for the memories but it’s our last time.
The food, service and overall experience when my wife and I ate here was super! But the best part is the food. Old country style food in the big city! It was delicious!
Love this place. Been eating here for 25 years. Very sad this evening when we found Roast Pork entree removed from the new menu. We come once a week for it. Please put it back on the menu.
I've eaten at this restaurant years ago and decided to bring my good friend who just moved here from Germany and her son to get some good soul food. He ordered the catfish and shrimp, and she ordered the roasted turkey, and I ordered the chicken fried chicken with pepper gravy. They both enjoyed their meals, but I have to keep it real. I was disappointed with my chicken because it was Luke warm along with the gravy and the fries. For dessert, I had the banana pudding, and the wafers were stale. I'm just happy that my guests enjoyed their meals because this was their first time dining here. Our server was awesome and brought me some Peach Cobbler, but I gave all my leftovers to the homeless guy sitting outside the restaurant. Step it up, Mary Macs! Consistency is key, and you are an iconic establishment in the ATL, so I expected quality food. I'll give it another try.
