The Fatted Calf - Athlone

Beautiful meal and beautiful presentation. meat dishes very tasteful and this comes from a metz-daughter who knows meat. my man had steak and it was cooked to perfection. I wanted to try a nice dish. it was amazing. never thought I could be upset by veg. I would highly recommend a visit here without reservation.

Atmosphere, staff and food were all excellent. Fried oyster mushroom starter was so tasty I'm gonna try make it myself. It was crispy and juicy. I shared the chateaubriand, one of tye best steaks I've had and I'm very picky about my steaks! My IPA was room temperature though, but the food was so good I can't dock marks.

A great place for food, good service and a nice atmosphere. Not as expensive as you may think.

Another memorable meal at The Fatted Calf. From starter to dessert everything my parents and I had to eat was superb. Every mouthful of the pan-fried rabbit,black pudding and parmesan risotto was delicious. Remembering how wonderful the garlic prawn starter tasted I decided to have it as main course, when the buttery garlicy prawns meet the jalapeño cornbread something magic happens. For chocolate lovers you could not beat their chocolate fondant, baked to perfection with it's centre oozing rich chocolate lava and complementing orange flavour. My father who claims to not like most desserts polished off the warm caramel donuts with great relish. Helpful and friendly people working there make for a nice relaxed atmosphere. Walking out the door straightaway I was looking forward to coming back soon.

Walking by I was intrigued by the name and although was not hungry I did notice a bar so went in to try a beer, look at the menu and maybe give it a try. Was greated at the door, said my reason and was rudely told that this a full meal and drink restaurant. I have no idea what the menu is and can care less anymore. I belive this was the owner of the said local. Unprofessional and rude. Maybe post outside the business only patrons that purchase everything from our menu can enter. However according to the reviews the food is very good, just be prepared to order no matter what to ensure you will not be rudely told to leave.
