Newk's Eatery - Athens

Great staff and clean restaurant. Nice bar top to sit at and watch the cooks work. Walked in ordered to go food. The order was right and it was fresh when we got home. Sandwiches were good but my wife loved the crab lobster bisque soup. Nothing fancy but a good lunch spot for the family to go/dine in.

Edit: Originally reviewed 2 years ago. I still enjoy the pizzas here. The vegetarian ones are also quite tasty. I dislike the Parisian bread used for their sandwiches, but there's the option to substitute it for wheat berry. Their chicken salad was really heavy on the mayo. Would have liked less of that as it overpowered a lot of the other flavors. More grapes would have helped balance the savory/creamy with the sweet. Otherwise they absolutely jam packed the sandwich with the helping of chicken salad. Their chilli was decent with just the right amount of kick. Was really pleased with my first visit to Newk's. The BBQ chicken pizza was tasty. Of course you don't get a very toasted bottom crust, so it's a bit flimsy. But that's what the fold technique is for. The half ceasar salad was almost overflowing the bowl. Great portions in my opinion for this order. However I did observe some people who ordered a 1/2 sandwich, which looked fairly small. Will definitely be back to try their cake and other pizzas.

My wife and I visited for a quick lunch and were impressed by the attentive staff. I ordered the half Newk's Club sandwich along with a bowl of chili. Both the sandwich and the chili were delicious. The chili had the perfect amount of meat and wasn’t overly spicy, and it came topped with shredded cheese. I also appreciated their drink cups; they are made of sturdy plastic, won’t get soggy, and can be reused. Overall, it was a great experience!

Newk's is an excellent spot for a sit-down or takeout lunch. I've always enjoyed their soup and salad combinations, as well as the large black plastic cup that comes with your drink order.

AMAZING! I ordered the Full Size Newk-Q sandwich, accompanied by mac and cheese and a small side salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The bread is wonderfully soft with a nice crunch, providing the perfect chew—definitely not tough or soggy. The chicken is genuine and cooked to perfection, seasoned just right, not overpowering at all. The salad is vibrant and fresh, with just the right amount of dressing. This was my first visit, and it definitely won’t be my last! Excellent job!
