Lovely to have a vegan hotel, but... Pros: Vegan Nice design Clean Cons: Staff not well informed about anything, couldn't give us information about breakfast, never told us city centre was closed for our arrival (making taxi journey interesting), never told us it was national day and didn't know what celebrations were on, etc... I cannot vouch for the regular rooms. We lodged in the duplex suite which again was nice but poorly designed. Great view of the acropolis from the top floor and nice terraces but could do with a lounge area instead of the two single beds on first floor. Also bathroom on first floor is much better than that on second floor. No tissues. Bedroom on second floor is tiny but has a queen bed which is OK. It is noisy most of the time though due to what I could assume was hotel ventilation or extraction. Another problem: if you want to work, there is nowhere to do that. No table or chair save on the terrace but then no socket... When I asked for a little table, they brought me a stool. To top this the wifi disconnects permanently... So, to sum it up, the suite is not worth the 300 euros a night they charge. If I came back I would book a regular room. The breakfast is nice and copious but kind of changes every morning. You can't get the exact same thing or taste twice. A disappointment as they have a non vegan menu for people who don't like vegan breakfasts...
Niki Athens was a wonderful introduction to Greece for me and my husband’s honeymoon. The front desk attendants are very nice and gave us all the details we needed for our stay at their hotel. The price point is great, we stayed in a typical room with a king bed and it was much more affordable than those on the nearby islands. The room is equipped with vegan toiletries and we even had a tray of pound cakes waiting for us when we arrived. The rooms are very cozy but felt perfect for just the two of us. The hotel is cozy all around, it feels personal with a turn key and much smaller number of rooms than a traditional American hotel. We chose this hotel specifically because we wanted to have the safety net of a vegan restaurant attached to the hotel. Unfortunately, the restaurant is not open on Mondays and Tuesdays, which was a majority of our stay, but we were delighted that next door is a vegan bakery, and across the street there is a vegetarian restaurant next door to a health food store, which offered food security (although we didn’t need it! Athens has soooo many vegan options! I was never worried about finding my next meal! Not only is food easily walkable, but we felt very lucky to have chosen a hotel so close to literally everything we wanted to see! The acropolis museum was maybe a 20 minute walk, restaurants we were interested in trying were never more than 15 minutes away by foot, and a taxi is always close by for the longer excursions. When we finally got to try the restaurant, it was delicious!!! The housekeeping staff is very pleasant and detail oriented, our room was perfect every afternoon when we came back from exploring. Niki Athens was extremely good to us when we asked for anything. We are happy with our stay and will absolutely stay again when we come back!
We would highly recommend any vegans going to Athens to book this hotel and we will definitely do so again next time we visit the city. It is worth going for the vegan breakfast alone- you pick one dish from each of the three sections, and they are all brought out at once with tea/coffee/juice- so for example I had the super berry granola and coconut yoghurt, the garden fry, AND the blueberry pancakes one day, and the yoghurt and fruits, tofu avocado toast and sweet potato brownies another day. The hotel staff were very friendly and gave helpful suggestions. The rooms had a great modern design, with very comfortable beds. No tea facilities but a coffee machine- a more than basic room with say a bath and a good view would be outside our budget (eg over 150e a night). We loved our dinner in the Winners restaurant, it was pricey around 18e a meal, but again the food was delicious and worth it. Not traditional Greek food but one of our favourite meals on holiday. We had the smashed smoky beyond burger which was much better than the usual beyond burger, and the Hawaiian Bowl with marinated watermelon, edamame, nori, sushi rice and sriracha mayo was absolutely delicious.
