Charlie's Chowder House - Astoria

My husband and I have traveled both throughout the nation and internationally and we eat everywhere in different places, even in TV shows. Although it has been two years since our visit, we talk about Charlies as the best place we've ever eaten! Phenomenal food, the incredible service and a relaxed atmosphere. We often recommend going somewhere and we wanted you to know that we are now in Pennsylvania and still talking about what a great experience it was! Everybody picks up the chef and we'll get back west and go back sometime!

Charlie 's is one of my new favorites in Astoria. Took a chance on a new place and I was not disappointed. Many restaurants advertise artisan burgers but Charlie 's actually delivers a superb burger. I also ordered a margarita and it was the best ones I 'd had in some time. Fantastic!

The ribeye was wonderful. Great quality and preparation. Tender, juicy, flavorful and cooked perfectly. The brava sauce on the potatoes was a nice surprise. My girlfriend had an off the menu special which was a sturgeon filet with asparagus and au gratin potatoes which she loved. The bartender Morrison was also a delight to talk to. We will definitely be back.

Decor is thrift store meets cabin in the woods. Nice homey comfortable feel. Brussel sprouts are amazing, coming from a girl that doesn't really like Brussels sprouts. Our server was quirky and fun. I would recommend this place for reasonably priced dinner. Steaks were cooked to perfection.

Cool atmosphere and vibe. I appreciate restaurants with creativity and try to mix things up a little. I felt like Charlie's was trying to do that but unfortunately didn't work out too well. Didn't like the sauces they had on the prawns appetizer or either steak we ordered. The people there were kind but the service was not very good. I ordered medium rare and my husband ordered medium and they mixed them up. Unfortunately, we couldn't switch since they weren't the same. They also didnt bring out the side that came with the meal and we had to ask for napkins and silverware. It was my sons 10th birthday (no kids menu by the way) and they were great about getting a candle and dessert together for him. That was definitely the best part of the meal. I highly recommend the cookie with ice cream on top. Probably wouldn't go there again.
