The Black Sheep Pub - Ashland

Many places in Ashland have a British theme, thanks to the popular Shakespeare festival, but this particular restaurant manages to avoid feeling tacky or cheap. It truly captures the authentic, community-focused vibe of a traditional British pub. During our visit, a talented duo played classic rock songs while the pub warmly welcomed a group of hikers who were forced off the Pacific Coast Trail due to smoke. I enjoyed the bangers and mash, although it would have been nice to see some more modern non-alcoholic options on the menu. Overall, it was a fantastic experience!

The beef pastie was excellent, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out it came with a salad. I ordered another one on the side. They were getting ready for drag night, which sounded like a lot of fun. This place is a great stop off the freeway during a road trip. The beer and spirits selection is good, and the ambiance is fun.

The food was excellent and the waiter was very attentive. The fish and chips were perfectly crispy and came in a generous portion. I decided to try the Scottish eggs for the first time and really enjoyed the Dijon mustard. Later in the evening, a nearby store called The Lantern held a storytelling event where customers shared life stories based on a specific prompt. It was almost like listening to poetry.

Rarebit was fantastic, but the owner was hosting some cult called The Lantern that kept approaching the table and it really turned us off. At one point we told them emphatically we were not interested, and the woman said she would leave us some materials in case we changed our minds. It was our 20th anniversary, and they wouldn 't leave us alone. By the third time someone came to the table, we were done. Im sure the owner will assure you it is not a cult, but whatever they want to call themselves they are pushy and intrusive.
