The Retreat Cafe - Ashford

We had a fantastic experience at the Retreat Animal Rescue Centre and Cafe. It was heartwarming to witness the incredible efforts being made to care for the rescue animals and birds on the premises. The vegan food served at the cafe was absolutely delicious, and knowing that it was cruelty-free made it even more satisfying. We are looking forward to returning to this wonderful place on a regular basis.

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic experience at The RETREAT! Billy, the founder, is very personable and we enjoyed hearing the stories of how the sanctuary animals arrived. We loved meeting goats, cows, and lambs up close - it reaffirmed why I chose to go vegan. The food at the café was excellent; my boyfriend, who eats meat occasionally, loved the chicken burger and the artisan coleslaw. I wish I had bought some food for dinner to take home. It was a magical experience eating while chickens and dogs roamed around. We will definitely be returning.

This café is a hidden gem that focuses on vegan cuisine, offering a variety of delicious homemade dishes and desserts as well as traditional junk food like burgers and hot dogs, all at affordable prices. The food was so good that I even took some home for dinner! On our first visit with a young child and dogs, we were warmly welcomed. It's a fantastic spot for a family outing and definitely worth your time and donations. Just make sure to wear wellies as the area can get muddy.

Wonderful day out for all the family. We have eaten here on many occasions and the food has always been superb. The vegan burgers are the best I have had anywhere. Staff volunteers are such friendly people. Our grandchildren love being able to feed...the animals...can't praise the Retreat enough.

Went there today and met some of the wonderful volunteers. All smiles and Welcomes. Saw the animals that are all happily milling around and particularly the chickens and ducks all wanting crumbs. The little shop has old and new items and sells bags of farm...animals food for you to get down and dirty feeding pigs, cows, sheep, peacocks, titles and horses. But the Cafe excels itself... a well oiled group of ‘family’ that work quickly and efficiently passing out plates of delicious fresh homemade vegan food but you don’t miss out on anything as the burgers are meat substitute that you’d never know and the fish cakes are Devine. Wait til you try the cakes! The chef obviously takes great pride in what he puts on a plate and it’s worth every penny. In fact leave more ....they so deserve it!
