I've been at Walter's Restaurant several times and have never been disappointed. The food has always been excellent and the quality of service really depends on the season and how busy they are. While they may seem reserved at first, once you start up a conversation, they have never failed to be gracious and friendly. I give the atmosphere three stars because the tables are located on a busy walkway, but it's a small price to pay for a good food at good prices for Algarve.

I stumbled upon O Walter on my walk from a shop to the beach...a new route for me. The food looked delicious, the patio was full and the tourist/prix fixe menu sounded good. For several times after that, I noticed the same thing whenever I walked past the restaurant. So, when my friend visited in October and asked for a budget friendly lunch, I suggested O Walter. Lunch was so delicious!!! (We ate from the tourist menu. And, our waiter Osmar was friendly and attentive. Not only ensuring we were enjoying our meal and beverages, Osmar also set up an extra umbrella and adjusted it whenever the sun shifted so that we'd be in the shade. He also left us at ease to enjoy a long and relaxing lunch. Lunch was so tasty that we decided to return for dinner a few days later. We ate the house specialty and thoroughly enjoyed it. Osmar and his colleague engaged in conversation with us, even entertained my friend's 9 month old and played a prank on my friend. It was such an enjoyable evening filled with delicious food, great wine and good laughs with the friendly staff! It felt like we were dining with old friends instead of restaurant staff we had just met. I highly recommend the food both the tourist menu and the house specialties great. The house wine and desserts are good too. And, friendly and attentive staff are wonderful.

Nice people. Welcoming. Popular with locals. Simple cuisine but good value and enormous portions. I had a huge plate of spare ribs. My wife had the biggest lamb chop we have ever seen bigger than most T bone steaks and with an unexpected fried egg on top. Add a bottle of pleasant Alentejo wine, a plate of salad, bread with butter, sardine pate and cream cheese, and a large bowl of olives, for a total of £41.95. This place deserves a far better ranking!
