A Korean friend recommended this place so I had high hopes but unfortunately it was mediocre. The japchae was tasty, but everything else was dry and underwhelming. The fusion attempt is there on a few appetizers, but with the bbq meat selection it seemed like an excuse to serve poorly done kbbq as fusion None of the meats were grilled (just simmered in a pan) and our spicy pork bulgogi had a vinegary almost buffalo sauce like flavor instead of a rich complex gochujang/gochugaru base. No char or crispy caramelized grilled bits, just stirfried meat in sauce. The katsu had a nice crunch but the meat was overcooked, dry and tough. The side dishes were small and no kimchi was served, which was a first for me at a Korean restaurant. Sadly not a place I'd recommend for quality Korean food (unless you're in the mood for japchae).
I'm fairly disappointed by this place and am puzzled by the 4 stars. For starters, the side dishes don't come with kimchi, which is astounding given that this is a Korean restaurant. So, I had to order it a la carte. A tiny cup of kimchi is $4, which itself was nearly 5% of my entire meal. I thought the service was a bit lackluster and overall cannot see myself making the drive back to Woori.
This place is SPECTACULAR! Easily the best Korean food this side of the river. Every time my husband and I walk in we are greeted like family, and that's really what it feels like. It's like you have stepped into the owner's kitchen and she is doing everything she can to make you feel at home. The service is always great, especially these days where everyone is short staffed and doing the best they can with whom they have. (Keep this in mind as you dine out these days, folks. People have NO staff and are just trying to get by after having 2 years of their lives and profits ripped away from them. Commenting on service unless it is TERRIBLE should be verboten until things get a little smoother for these establishments Everything is good, from the warm Cinnamon Punch (seriously, just get it), to the Banchan (side dishes), to the Bibimbap, to the grilled selections, to the small plates! My favourite is the pork belly grill, and make sure to get some of the seaweed rolls as an appetizer, or cheesy dumplings, or really ANYTHING. All the Banchan are house-made and super creative and tasty, so don't skip them. No boring kim chi here! I have never had a bad bite of food here, and it is one of my favourite places to bring friends because it is delightful to see people's faces light up when they eat this food!
Good bibimbap and banchan for lunch. No hot stone pot, so there wasn't crispy rice edges, but the steel pot helped keep the food warm. Service was a bit sparse, they only took my order and dropped the check I finished my iced tea about 10 mins in and was thirsty through my meal, so I docked a star for that reason.
