Make sure you order some Ramuné drinks in the mini fridge. Ramuné is this amazing Japanese soda, which has a marble that needs to be “loved” in the drink. It is very funny and the drink is so good! We ordered to launch the Takoyaki and a small order of Udon. We really loved how tasty the broth was for the Udon. The Takoyaki was very unique and so delicious! For our main dishes we ordered a bowl of the Kakatsu Curry bowl, which comes with white rice, amazing Japanese curry and beautifully crowned pork carvings. The cutout was not dry and added the correct amount of texture to the bowl. The chicken Teriyaki Don was absolutely amazing. Classic Teriyaki flavors with beautiful caramelized chicken and well cooked rice. It was also really nice to be able to walk our left overs easily. The bowls they come into are those you can take home, all you need is lid. After eating, the beauty of the entire experience in Maido’s is able to buy for most of these ingredients! The store is organized and filled with Japanese snacks and other items. Overall this shop is a hot spot! Pretty busy, so try to come during the break to have a smooth culinary experience! I can't wait to visit again! Great place for lunch or a short bite!
This marketplace is incredible.. Not as big as Mitsuwa in Edgewater New Jersey. But even better because it is smaller and packages a wallap. With a beautiful food market that has everything you need, like fresh vegetables and seafood. To great Japanese food. And even a built restaurant that has something for everyone. I recommend this market/restaurant if you are in the area. Here are some pictures of our lunch.
It's not bad, but it's not great. As someone who has gone their whole life into the Asian markets, there are a few contrasts about this place. What I'm gonna get in a second. If that's your first Asian market, you'll love it. And I think this is a great start for what else is out there, but I don't see the hype. Nevertheless, I came, I saw I supported. But I won't be back. Now on the doubles ~ This place has no own parking. It is either metered street parking or metered parking. Sure you can wait up to 4:00 and it will be free, but then that's because everyone is waiting to do the same, which means you don't find a parking place. I left earlier. Parking in the Schauffele Plaza car park. Many empty spaces. It is 2 hours max. And Maido was over the street. Here is SUPER small! And everything's running pretty expensive. The shelves feel naked, but that could be because of the pandemic I'm not sure. There are a lot of choices and choices you can find in any other Asian market in Philly and not so upset. The area around Maido is also very condensed. Lots of traffic. So I think it all if someone shows up on a weekend or at any time after 4:00 and tries to find parking. Many shops and restaurants nearby so that you compete with all others, plus in general, lots of traffic! The stationery is a very small section, like any selection of the shop. The pen is a corner of the back wall, that's it. Cute. But you won't find that much. It's very simple. It took years to check this because I knew about the parking lot, the traffic jam, the fact that it is so small that I would not be too excited with it. But I took up my niece for the day and thought she would enjoy it, and she did. She has paralyzed a little for her friends. But for someone who has grown up and can drive around, it wouldn't be my first choice or recommendation.
Authentic, delicious Japanese cuisine with all my favorites: Yakisoba, Katsu Curry, Onigiri and much more. The restaurant side is amazing and so is the store. I love coming here to get my fixed Japanese culture! Most of the staff on the restaurant side speak Japanese, so you can order food in Japanese or even talk to them! I'll be back to try more!
Cool spot. Maido! Is the only Japanese owned supermarket in the greater Philadelphia area. Plenty of authentic favorites. Food, stationary, cosmetics, candy, drinks, t-shirts, and more. Some of the highlights include the super soft loaves and half-loaves of bread. Delicious!! Also, the stationary, pens, and mechanical pencils are always a personal favorite. Definitely a great place to check out.
