We ordered Award Winning CRISPY pork sisig, Ginataang Kuhol, Bulalo and Congo Rice As always pork sisig is the BEST. Very unexpected, they have kuhol which made my daddy happy because its very rare. And finally what made us happy especially our tummy, the congo rice cooked in squid ink. So we all had that big smile (note: you should have a selfie smiling with your teeth)
This is the first time we ate at Congo Grille and worst service ever. Seriously? Talking to customers na parang napadaan lng. Siga pa si kuyang server. The foods ok though!
Congo Grill is at the Lower Ground Floor of SM Masinag in Antipolo City. We've eaten here a few times on weekdays since the place looks quiet and has only a few customers. We've tried their Beef Kare-kare, Pork Sinigang, Pork BBQ, Sisig Kapampangan and Beef Caldereta which were all okay but nothing extraordinary. Also, the beef on the Caldereta and Kare-kare were a little tough. We learned that they're now currently undergoing an uplift. Noticeably, the menu has been trimmed down to the most popular items. Nes, their cordial and pleasant Manager has told us that some more improvements are on the way. Their famous primate on the logo previously seen 'with a beer on its hand' will have a different pose soon. We hope this upgrade will reflect all aspects: food, service and ambiance.
The food is really bad and the place had an unpleasant smell which indicates that the place was not cleaned properly. Their staff were okay in terms of service (even very helpful when you ask something), but there were some FOH staff (maybe taking some rest/break) that were sitting at the back part or the dining area who were talking loudly with each other which distracts their diners. In terms of food alone, the taste just was not right. We ordered krispy kangkong which was way too oily and had quite thick breading which made it "nakakaumay". We also had the pork sisig with the crispy chicharon (cannot recall if it is the kapampangan or the congo sisig) but it was more of onions than pork. I had to spit out the excess onions because it stings too much and it's all I can taste. We also ordered kare-kare vegetables which seemed just all food coloring and no taste at all. I was expecting, at least, to taste something peanut-y. But not a hint of it was present in that dish. It was a very sad and dissatisfying experience for us. I am not dining here again and I am not recommending this resto to anyone who wants a tasteful meal.
