Gourmet cheeses, olive oils, fresh-baked bread (the best ever), and meats make Zingerman's truly amazing. The uniquely Ann Arbor flair of the restaurant makes it very unique and a must-visit for out-of-towners.
Zingerman's Delicatessen opened in 3/82. Zingerman's Delicatessen is the deli in the Midwest to go to buy exquisite cheeses, meat, breads, salads, pastries, and chocolates; or just to nosh on one of their delightful deli creations. They have their own bakehouse (bagels), creamery (cream cheese for the bagels), and the Roadhouse (referenced elsewhere on this review site). We buy loaves of their challah and a loaf of their cherry chocolate bread (it is great toasted). The menus and their literature is artsy and informative. The only thing that might lead a first timer's jaw to drop are the prices. Everything is pprrricceeeyyy. But, if you are looking for a hard to find something, like a Smoked Chorizo Sausage, they'll probably have it.
This place is crazy I'm glad we didn't have the kids with us. Planning to order a sandwich? The wait was 50-60 minutes. It was a good sandwich but I'm thankful I wasn't there for a quick lunch. Keep in mind a sandwich is almost $30. Great meat, cheese bread selection. They have lots of other stuff but that was our focus for our first visit. We plan to return the next chance weget.
An Ann arbor institution.we went on a holiday weekend and you have to manage expectations as it was a 45 minute wait for take out, but so worth it. Ate so much we could barely walk out of there. Nice outdoor eating area. Very well organized (order onkiosks, pick up area when you get the text). Cool stores around there to pass the time. The apple sauce for the lattke is worththe trip in itself (as is the lattke). Splurge a bit and enjoy.
What an absolutely amazing experience! This is by far the most beautiful and well ran deli I have ever been to. They have meat and cheese and a full sandwich deli with soups, snacks and drinks. They have a good selection of house made bread and candies aswell as a very good selection of balsamic vinegar. They have dining upstairs and even a roof patio. If you're in the area youneed to stop.
