Praia Sao Gonçalo - Angra dos Reis

I was there with a group (with a previous technical visit made in September where Ms. Bete was cordial and receptive, guaranteeing us good service and welcome), and it was a disappointment. She and her team select which customers they will treat well. Several empty tables saying they were reserved but weren't. He imposed that to stay at his restaurant we must consume 3 dishes for 4 people, for a total of 900 reais, because one of our customers had a 10l cooler. I wanted to put us inside the restaurant without a view and isolated from everyone. We didn't accept it and went to the Pastelaria next door (Bete's daughter's) where we were told that if we consumed any item we would already pay for the table. Said speech to everyone in our group who asked. We offered to pay for the rental of the tables and she didn't accept (and if we consumed other things we would like much more than 900 reais, it was just her valued customer). In the end we started drinking coconut water remembering that we could eat anything and we started to notice that several boats were arriving, most of Bete herself with huge coolers, dogs, thermal bags and arriving and sitting down, eating without restrictions. We asked for the bill and that's when she (Jaqueline) showed who she really was. Saying that we didn't consume anything and that we should leave the table immediately. Something I refused to do because we paid for what we consumed and were still waiting for the change. When confronted about what she said, everyone threw it behind the attendant's back. We left as soon as we received our change, but we weren't even allowed to sit and wait for the boat to Praia de São Gonçalo. It is clear that Dona Bete and Jaqueline select who to treat well. The difference with black clients is very clear. Well, my sister in law and another client of ours who are white heard from her that it was not necessary to eat the most expensive meal in the restaurant three times and they were immediately welcomed. At night while visiting the historic center, we encountered excellent, polite and welcoming service to our group. In fact, one of us commenting on the episode with D Bete was informed that several people have had the same bad experience. I work with travel groups and understand that the highest value paid is people. And what we value is education without prejudice or difference. That's sad! Because the place is beautiful and I recommend staying in the restaurant on the left as you arrive on the island. There you can eat portions or whatever you want! And visit the right side because we must not forget that the space is public and the beach belongs to the state of Rio de Janeiro! Soon from everyone.

Sorry to say, but Mrs Bete has a preference for white customers.... we arrived at the place and she was organizing a table for 25 people, she asked me to wait a little before occupying a small table, after a few minutes he arrived at us and the first sentence was: to use the table you need to consume... not even a good day lol At no point was she friendly to us... I found it strange, because in the comments most people spoke well. Afterwards I watched and with other customers she was super friendly, she was going to every table telling a little about the history of the restaurant etc... My boyfriend also noticed and commented she thinks we don 't have money We are trying to understand the lack of friendliness at our table Maybe because I 'm Afro-Brazilian, maybe because of the appearance of my boyfriend, who is foreign and because of his culture of origin, has a big beard, the truth is that we weren 't well received. We took a day trip to the island. We came there hungry and we were really happy with the service and hospitality of the owners. The food is mostly fried: fried squids, shrips, french fries we slso had fish which came with shrimp sauce. Those were real shrimps, not just asian shrimp sause. Caipirinas were really good- strong and tedty, but rather small. Over all, we spent a nice day on the island! Food: 3

I live in England and went to visit Bete's restaurant on vacation. The island is beautiful and is very well looked after by Bete, a firm lady who keeps everything clean and organized! If you go with any type of food/drink, be prepared to spend a lot of money in the restaurant which for me is totally worth it. You cannot leave disposable cups, much less trash in sight. No loud sounds are allowed, which is essential for me. The staff were attentive and Bete came to our table to help us with our order. The decoration is charming in itself, very Instagrammable. I will come back more often to enjoy the peace and organization of Restaurante da Bete!
