There are quite a lot of restaurants in town which seem more popular but we found it really good here too. The menu also clearly showed vegetarian and gluten free which was really helpful.
One of my favorite in the summer as you can eat outside and they serve a good selection of food menu both in French and English serve Alsace wine which I love. would recommend to anyone.
We were in Angouleme on a Sunday lunchtime in early March. As you'd expect most of the shops were closed but surprisingly most restaurants were also closed. We eventually found 2 virtually next door to each other that were open, one a fast food type place, the other the tavern Karlsbrau. We'd never been in or heard of this place before. It was busy, which is always a good sign, but not overpowering. The layout & décor is appealing, & from the look of the photos on the wall its been trading as a restaurant for a long long time.A good choice of food, attentive staff. The pricing was at the top end of what Id expect for a similar meal elsewhere but this is city centre & no doubt priced accordingly.Regrettably we were overcharged & didn't notice until we got home (an hour away). They have a website which promises a response within 48 hours which we used. But 1 month later no response so we have written it off to experience. But the overcharging & the lack of response left us slightly disappointed & that's reflected in the rating for service.
Stopped here for lunch. We ate from the cheapest menu du jour. We were not disappointed. It was tasty and simple. Service was good, waiters pleasant and one spoke English which helped us.
