The staff is always very nice, they have plenty of coffee, but you might wait a bit as they are usually pretty busy. Large portions and AMAZING sausage links.
On a recent visit to Anchorage I had the opportunity to try two different locations for Kava's Pancake House. Warning: The name may be the same but this location does not have the exact same menu as the others do. Location: Right off the highway, and with plenty of parking. Service: Slow. And rude. And did I mention slow? Food: Once you get what you ordered you forget about the slow service. Unless you write Yelp reviews and then even though you'll want to clean your plate the bad service is something you remember. Overall: 3 Stars. Quality food, but less than great service puts this location squarely in 3 star territory.
The absolutely trash, one of my 5 party order, water goes to the kitchen to finded out order number one is out, he reorders and the same things happens over again 7 min later all of my 5 party gets all of our orders in after waiting 20 min or so which is ok I dont mind waiting that long for good food. 15 min after the order I was told that what I ordered the restaurant ran out, I dont know how that is. After all that the manager came out to let us know that from the 13 feet or so from the kitchen to our table the water lost our order. DONT GO TO THIS KAVAS. Go to the one on Muldoon.
My favorite spot for breakfast in Anchorage! The biscuits and gravy are unmatched anywhere else.
My main suggestion for improvement would be to add a personal touch to the dishes, something that makes them unique to Kava. It felt like some items relied too much on pre-made ingredients, which overshadowed some otherwise well-prepared dishes. Despite the restaurant not being overly crowded, and operating around the clock, there’s still plenty of potential for it to truly shine. It’s a local place that deserves recognition for the hard work that has gone into it. In terms of the menu, some items are definitely better than others. My personal favorite is the loco moco, and if you have a craving for rice, the sumo is a solid choice. The pancakes, while not particularly extraordinary, do the job—they are indeed pancakes.
