Pub Fiction Gasbar and Grill - Ancaster

Been here a few times for drinks with my colleagues and it wasn't too bad. They have a good variety on tap. We went there for lunch a few months prior and the service was quite slow for lunch considering we were the only people there at the time.

Stopped in here for a quick beer and dinner while out shopping. It seems to be a fun place. Music on the weekends. An interesting décor and a nice patio. We were seated right away and our server showed up quickly. She was very nice, but couldn't comment on the food as she wasn't all that familiar with it. I had a draught and it came nice and cold. My wife had a palm bay and it was cold as well. So far so good. I ordered some wings, and the Mrs. ordered fish and chips. My wings came quickly, but that's all there was. No celery sticks or carrot sticks. Just wings in a small basket. They were large and meaty but very dry. To long in the fryer id say. On a scale of 1 to 10, they were a 4. The Mrs. had fish and chips, and it came quickly as well. She rated it a 6 out of 10. Not sure if I would return for dinner. But a beer and a snack? Sure.

Staff are great. Nice fun atmosphere. Love the ice row on the bar to keep drinks cold. However I don't love the menu or the food.

Went for lunch. Big place with pretty well spaced out seating. Was not busy at all on a Wed. afternoon. Ordered a burger which was very good - homemade. The house salad was excellent (Balsamic). They have a large stage so I'm sure with bands playing it'll get pretty loud. A decent selection of beer available including some craft. Value was ok, $16 for a burger and fries is a bit high, but the portion and quality were there. I'll give this place another visit, but may be too busy in the evenings for my style (admittedly laid back). Wait staff was polite.

Our original reason for going o Pub Fiction was because we know the band and really wanted to see them again. As it was St. Patricks Day it was crazy, but that is what i expected. We learned that some of the staff were in their first week and even first day. While waiting for a table we read the food reviews and were frankly concerned as they were poor. We were not leaving and food was a must. With lowered expectations because of reviews and the massive crowd I have to say the food was DELICIOUS! We ordered the Irish Nachos , Black and Blue Burger, Fish and Chips and 4 different flavours of wings. Granted i do think they are over priced by $2 - $3 on every item and even more on their wings. One of our guests writes his own reviews on Wings in the greater Hamilton/Burlington area and he agreed over priced but great selection of sauces ( ask for more sauce as they were a little light on the sauce) and the wings were a decent size and they were cooked perfectly. I have to say the fish ( fish and chips ) was fresh and tasty. Crisp batter not heavy or greasy. The sides however were average. The fries just okay and a little soggy but that could have been because of the number of orders going thru the kitchen. The coleslaw we all thought was poor. Almost tasteless and i think it must have been gone into a food processor as it had the consistency of minced baby food. So although i really enjoyed the fish the $14-$15 price tag for 1pce was a little steep considering the coleslaw and fries were less than average. Wish i could have had just the fish no sides. The burger was good nice fresh topping and a fresh bun. That would defiantly be a reorder in the future. This place has a ton of atmosphere and live bands which will totally make it a place we will revisit. I can only speculate but maybe the poor service from earlier reviews were because of staff and it seem like they have hired new ones. Other than the female manager who appeared to be angry ( at everyone, patrons,& staff,) and overwhelmed most of the evening the other staff, owners and servers were pleasant and as accommodating as possible. One last suggest would be that on high turn out events the management needs to hire extra experienced bartenders. The ones there we slammed and could not keep up, but again they were at capacity.
