I was there this week during this difficult time and found them to be incredibly busy. Their staff was shopping for on line orders. All of the orders were very well organized up front in refrigerators. And the checkout staff was doing an amazing job keeping the belts spotless between shoppers. They sprayed the entire belt and the whole area including credit card pads with disinfectant. Having said that, though I do miss the hot food bar and salad bar, I did find everything I usually love packaged in the refrigerator sections. The meatless meatballs which when added to their cheese pizza and a few slices of a fresh avocado from the produce section , is amazing. I also discovered chicken pot pie soup which was a huge hit with the husband. And the huge soft pretzels are individually wrapped now. If you grab a tub of the pub cheese from the cheese section fridge and warm it up in the microwave for a bit, while toasting the pretzel in the toaster oven , open a beer of your choosing from that amazing selection they have.... all your worries will go away for awhile. Even the prices.
Whole Foods has what I need, plenty of it, and in myriad flavors, sizes, shapes, and textures. I eat vegan, and the only thing I miss is greek yogurt. Whole Foods started carrying Kite Hill greek yogurt in the 5.3oz. Now they carry the 16oz container! No other stores carry this. Thank you Whole Foods!
I enjoy occasionally stopping at Whole Foods to see what's on sale and what's new. The cheese department has a large selection and they will give you samples if you ask. They have a really nice selection of fresh baked breads and pastries. I always pick up a loaf of bread when I go there. I have not tried their cafe yet but from looking at their food and craft beer selection, I'll be trying it out soon. An added bonus is that if you have Amazon Prime, just scan the code from the Amazon app and you get a discount. If you have never been to Whole Foods, you should check it out.
I like Whole Foods for their hot bar, deli, and bakery selections. Their hot bar is priced pretty similarly to other stores, but the selection is far more extensive, and the quality seems better. Since Whole Foods opened until now, I haven't noticed any significant change. I do hope this will continue, both for the hot bar and the deli. Regarding the bakery, when Whole Foods first opened, the bakery selection was very extensive, and the price was lower than that of other grocery stores. Pretty quickly, however, the selections got somewhat reduced and the prices went up a few times. Now, the prices are no different than other grocery stores, the quality of the cakes have gone down a bit, and the selections have become a bit limited a boring. I used to go at least once a week for a treat from Whole Foods bakery. Now I stop by once a month because it no longer feels so special. I wish the quality and selection would go back to the way they were when they first opened, if not the price point. When Whole Foods first opened, I tried a few times to shop at the rest of their departments, but their prices were too high for me, and the selections for the most part too limited. However, I did notice that the quality of some of the products like the meat for example was better than most stores. That said, Whole Foods does offer some items that cannot be found in other stores. This is the only store that sells some of my skincare products. It is also the only store in the area that I have managed to find that sells cooking grade lavender. Regarding the staff, while everyone I have interacted with so far are friendly, I tend to be hesitant seeking for help from the staff. The ones that I can find have tried to be helpful, but they also tend to be very busy trying to help multiple customers at once sometimes even while doing restocking, so I end up having to wait for a long time for an answer (I'm talking over 30 minutes of standing around waiting for someone to get back to me). The only time this isn't happening is if, say, I'm visiting the Beauty department, and I see an attendant already there restocking a shelf, and I need to ask them a question about the Beauty department. Even going to customer service desk doesn't help, since customer service would grab someone else who is more knowledgeable in the department I need help in, then the associate they grabbed would be busy trying to help me while running around trying to do at least three other things at once. I don't think this is the fault of the employees, as this didn't happen early on in this particular Whole Foods' time. I have also visited other Whole Foods stores before, and I didn't see any problem with shortage in staffing in those stores. I'm not writing this review about Whole Foods with the intention for it to be shut down. There are plenty of good things about Whole Foods that I like. I'm writing this review with the hope that Whole Foods management will see it as an opportunity to improve, and others will see potential in Whole Foods and give it a chance.
I was at the Whole Foods Market three times this past week. Monday was my most extensive time spent there by far. I spent a good deal just shopping on Monday. Browsing price checking and getting the whole layout in mind. It was supposed to be Italian week and there were a few sales on Italian products leading up to Saturday when they crack open a wheel of parmesan cheese. I was under the impression that there would be various samples throughout unfortunately I was unable to locate them. I didn 't arrive that early so maybe that 's why I didn 't see them. When I first walked into the store there is a juicer promoting grapefruit juice but didn 't see anyone near it and nothing but a waste basket with empty plastic sample cups. I didn 't inquire further and subsequent trips looked like it 's changed to OJ. No samples though. So I perused the various products and noticed a lot of very good items however I wasn 't impressed by the prices. It could be because I shop at different store 's with a lower quality but definitely lower price points. I returned a few more times throughout the week and didn 't find many samples on display but if you asked at the various counters they would oblige with a sample. I didn 't partake at the prepared foods kiosks which did have a plethora of good looking, healthy and diverse ethnic foods. The price was eight dollars a pound. I finally was fortunate to receive my samples on Saturday of parmesan cheese which was six dollars cheaper a pound. They also had samples of a orechette pasta in a parmesan cream sauce that was just delicious. To my surprise I found the 1818 Bar and grill near the exit door that turned out to be the deal that I was looking for. They had a menu of 13 craft beers local and some not along with a big menu of salads, appetizers, sandwiches and the like. The happy hour special is $10 for any 2 that could be two drafts or wine or pub fare i tried the chicken wings 12 count and a beer for ten bucks was well worth it. The wings had three sauces available traditional buffalo, soy ginger scallion and honey mustard. I preferred the traditional but the others were good as well. There were various fried foods dips to try on the happy hour menu. Gives me a reason to return just for the wings and a libation.
