Henion Bakery - Amherst

I was so nervous when I called a few bakeries the day before my birthday, and they said it was too late to make me a cake! Cake is incredibly important to me on my birthday, so I was aghast. I felt so blessed when I told The Henion Bakery and Barbara that she would not only make me a cake, but asked me exactly how I wanted it!! She led me through all my options for cakes and icing. When I said I wanted some fruit and chocolate, but was afraid of it being too sweet, she smashed dark chocolate, and so on until I had a chocolate cake with dark chocolate garnish icing and her special strawberry butter cream filling with coarsely cut strawberries. It turned out to be so beautiful that I cut out some extra slices and frozen them before my friends could finish everything. Of course, they did not stay in the freezer for very long. Thank you!

I've been a customer at Henion's for 20 years, and their freshly baked pastries, breads, and cakes never disappoint. Additionally, their coffee is always served hot and fresh. Henion's has also fostered a strong sense of community, with local artists' works adorning the walls. It's a place where customers linger, continuing friendships and conversations long after their coffee and muffins are gone.

This bakery is truly outstanding! I highly recommend it, especially since they also take custom cake orders. The owners are incredibly friendly and accommodating as well. Plus, they serve large coffees and teas for those on the go.

I made sure to try both Sweet and Savory options. The bread was definitely my favorite. They could taste that they were more passionate about their baked goods. The chocolate croissant was pretty dense and laborious. They had a good amount of items to choose. So, I'll keep that on the list of places to try again.

I stopped in for a spontaneous sweet treat to enjoy with my coffee. Wow! This is definitely the best glazed donut I've ever tasted—no question about it!
