Mel's Sweet Occasions - Ames

I had high hopes for this place but I wasn’t impressed with the flavor-especially for the price. They did a GREAT job with the presentation of the cake , however.

There is so much I can say, but long story short, MSO is amazing, Melissa is amazing, her treats are SOOOOO good, and the chocolate cupcake is to DIE for. Hands down the best cupcake I've had in my life.I have also had her pepper thyme shortbread, oatmeal creme pie, petit four, opera cakes, lemon blueberry scones, sugar cookies, and a cake tasting kit with tons of different flavors. I am usu pretty picky when it comes to sweets and baked goods, but with MSO, I can pick out one or two things I wasn't crazy about (like the top piece on the opera cakes they were a bit too gelatinous feeling to me) and that's it. Overall, everything has been phenomenal. They are not sickeningly sweet, they are just the right blend of sweet and buttery. Melissa is also super easy to work with, patient, and understanding. I can't wait till our wedding guests try out all her goods too!

Mel made our wedding cake 5 years ago and every birthday since we’ve been enjoying her cakes! Recently we had our daughters 6th birthday to do some cookie decorating at the Main Street location and it was such a fun experience that all the kiddos enjoyed PLENTY of frosting to go around! ? Mel goes above and beyond for it all.

Purchased gluten free cupcakes for my sister-in-laws bday. They were the best cupcakes I have ever had. Will definitely order again.

I love Mel’s Sweet Occassions. Not only is Mel super accommodating, but she’s a super talented baker too. I’ve used this bakery multiple times for custom treats but also for regular gluten free cinnamon roll orders and other treats, and I’ve never been disappointed. My most recent order was for my daughter’s 5th birthday party. She made my little girl’s unicorn dreams come true and I am so thankful!
