San Marino - Alzey

With wooden beams and candles, this looks like a classy Italian, so I was nervous to look at the menu at the door...but pleasantly surprised both by the prices and the range of food. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I spoke Italian to...them as I don’t speak German so don’t know if anyone speaks English. A good range of all varieties of simple Italian food, every dish in our table of four was impressive not pretentious but tasty and you know that all pasta and sauces are made in-house. WCs very good, new and clean, and (my yardstick for Italians) they were happy to make zabaglione off the menu. Plenty of parking at the rear. If I lived nearer I’d be back there every excuse I could get! Any negatives? We didn’t try the meats or fish because of the relatively high pricing but there’s plenty of other choice.

The restaurant is located at the main street. There is some public parking space available. The decoration is OK, nothing fancy. The dishes are standard Italian/German. The pizzas are yummy. The Saltimbocca has less to do with a real Saltimbocca alla Romana. The service is...quick and friendly. The prices are moderate.

Everybody is different but this is the best lasagna we've ever had. And we have a story behind it. years ago my husband was living in Worms nearby. During one of my visits there we came across this restaurant. But in years we...lost the name and address. When we decided on a short visit to Germany the first thing on the list was to see if we could find the incredible lasagna using only memories about what the street and restaurant looked like. Upon arrival in Alzey, because of construction on this street, it took us about hours to find this place. Time well spent. Lunch was awesome. Only German spoken here though, so take your Itranslate ap if needed. Oh, and do not, Do Not, DO NOT use Dollar rental car if coming from the US and need a car in Frankfurt. the only counter is in the domestic terminal, optional insurance is mandatory if you do not have a hard copy of a letter from your credit card company stating they will cover damages (this almost doubled the price of the car rental), there was no inspection when we picked the car up but they were quick to inspect it upon drop-off of course there was a scratch. Amazing how he spotted it so quickly. I guess that optional insurance paid for it. Back to the review If you are ever close to Alzey I highly recommend this restaurant!
