My friends and I had the pleasure of experiencing the Yurt this season. From beginning to end, every detail was carefully thought of! Upon arrival we were greeted, set up with snow shoes, and led through a trek up the mountain with beautiful snow covered trees that really set the tone. The Yurt itself was quaint, rustic, and the staff was attentive to make sure every second of the experience worth it. Each course had its own unique flair! I had no idea so much flavor could be packed into each dish. Absolutely would recommend to anyone wanting a genuine mountain experience with its own twist. We will most definitely be back!
If you experienced the Solitude Yurt for dinner pre covid, you know this was a quality experience. We took a leadership team partners here in 2019 for a holiday party, and we were blown away by the James Beard type quality of food and environment. What an experience. Things have changed, unfortunately. We took my parents for the holidays last week and were underwhelmed. 1 The yurt has been expanded to include a kitchen, but that means more room for tables and pack them in they did. There's hardly room to move now. It was hard to get up to remove coats or go to the bathroom outside. 2 The food was very underwhelming in portion size. All the plates ~40? are prepared at once and then served, so everything is cold by the time it reaches you. The wagyu steaks were wonderfully prepared and were generous in size, but the rest of the courses were but a taste and unremarkable. 3 During dinner, there was so much smoke coming from food preparation in the kitchen that we had trouble breathing. There was little to no ventilation, which was especially troubling in a triple demic of flu, RSV, and covid. 4 Yurt was either too hot guests were taking their sweaters off or freezing cold when we turned the heaters off. There was no middle ground. 5 Finally, for $200 per person, I would expect that soda products or tea could be included or at least available for additional purchase. Water was the only option unless purchasing wine or beer. The red wine was as cold as the ice water. The staff worked very hard, and I can't fault them for the ill planned logistics or the overpriced meal. However, I've spent much less for a far better meal experience, even at Michelin restaurants. Three years ago, the experience justified the price. Now, not at all.
Fine dining experience more like FUN dining experience. Cost included a guided snowshoe tour through the woods to the Yurt. Upon entry I was greeted with much laughter and excitement, and delightful aromas of perfectly cooked steaks and veggies. The servers were funny and super nice. The food was a dream come true. Chef Craig Gerome (who ownes a sausage company called Geromes Market (also amazing they sell sausages at the farmers market) was our chef for the evening. He did a great job... aside from all the wonderful things you would expect from such an occasion, there are some points to note: primitive Yurt means no running water. If you are not ok with a porta john, this is not the place for you (unless you want to commit a watershed violation). Don 't worry, there 's a thermos inside for hand washing. Also.. primitive Yurt does not run on electricity. A generator and propaine fuel the appliances and heating devices, so prioritize warm layers over fancy outfit. Anyway that 's the only real advice I have, besides bring some good jokes and positive vibes and sit back and enjoy this truly unique and delicious experience. My only real criticism is that there ought to be some sausage on the menu on the nights that Craig is working, also, there is a lot of snow accumulating on the newly built structures, making me concerned about the Yurt 's longterm integrity. Someone really should remove the snow. Service: Dine in Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
While it is a fun and unique experience, $200/person is too steep for what it is. The food was hit or miss. Really enjoyed the grougere (cheesy bread) to start and the Barada salad was nice, but the porchetta main dish was REALLY fatty and dry in spots. The sunchoke purée dish lacked pop as well. The end left a really sour taste in our mouth it was really awkward when it came to tipping. When we booked the reservation, it clearly said that server gratuity was included, but our server was very clear and saying that it was not included. We even double checked the email confirmation and showed it to our server and she didn't know what to say. We ended up leaving a substantial gratuity because we felt the servers worked hard and deserved it, but management did a really bad job of messaging this, and it felt deceiving.
