Cepa Torta - Alijo

This restaurant is unpretentious, much like the Portuguese we have met, but the food is authentic, original and local. The wine selection well exceeds my capacity to comprehend the diverse and excellent wines of Portugal and the Duoro.

We had a large group for dinner, they accommodated us very well for a pleasant evening. Menu had a great choice, our group has sampled many of them and almost everything was thumb up. The staff service was excellent and one of the waiters who spent many years in the USA spoke excellently colloquial English. The prices were very fair and considering that there are so few better restaurants in the city, we felt this was a great place. By the way, her chilled white port with Tucan cocktail was nothing I would have ordered before dinner, but 9 out of 10 of us all loved him!

Close to our host recommended Cepa Torta and we were not disappointed. The sauces used in various dishes were full of local flavors and refined. We tried the partridge and wild boar, both were new to us and rich in interesting warm spices. The local dessert of olive oil pudding and olive oil ice was a revelation and delightful. Our waiter Frank was exceptionally friendly and led us expertly to understand the local dishes. We dined there twice in 3days and would highly recommend it.
