It's the same owner, chef and menu the main difference is that it seats more people and is more comfortable. My favorites are verbena de verduras (a platter of grilled vegetables including two types of mushrooms, aubergine, zucchini, asparagus and onion), patatas bravas (potatoes in hot tomato sauce with aioli), croquetas de jamon, pescado frito (fried fish) and dates wrapped in bacon. There are many other things, including pinchos morunos (grilled meat skewers), chopitos (fried baby squid), calamares a la romana (calamari), and miniature sandwiches with meat, cheese, ham, and whatever you want. If you are hard core into tapas, you can try the callos (stomach) and sesos (brains), but there are plenty of other choices if you are not as adventurous. You can eat as much or as little as you want there is no pressure to spend a certain amount. It is not uncommon for spaniards to have a beer and a small plate or two for a few euros; you can also make it a meal, as there is enough variety (two people can have a full meal for about 40 50 euros including drinks). I've been there both for lunch and dinner, and the menu is the same.
The only day the weather wasn't good over the week at half term. We headed into to Alicante and stumbled across a street that was full of Mushroom's some house for kids some slides etc which made it for our 3 and 6 year old and we stubbled across this fantatsic Tapas-Montaditos-Picoteo bar/restaurant, the service and selection was fantatsic and the boys ate most of the tapas we ordered but a t between €2-8 a plate and 2 for a glass of red and rose it wasnt a great hard ship
This is a tiny tapas bar popular with the locals. The food is always fresh, and the staff are attentive, friendly and very understanding with foreigners who have limited Spanish. The food isn't prepared until you order it. Love the grilled vegetables, a huge platter of grilled mushrooms, onions, asparagus, eggplant and zucchini. The fried small fish and squid are also delicious. Also love the pan con tomate, toasted bread with tomato and olive oil. You can eat as much or as little as you like, there's never any pressure to order more. This is a casual, noisy place to go with friends or solo; I wouldn't take a romantic date to it.
We stayed in San Remo almost opposite this fantastic tapas bar but only discovered it hours before we had to leave... que lastima! Tapas as they should be; your order is taken by the barman who takes your tapa from the counter-fridge to the cook. There were tapas I did not see anywhere else in Valencia Province. Not the cheapest place in town, but the best we could find. Also; we think you can classify a tapas restaurant by its Calamares a la Romana: the lighter the batter, the better the restaurant. Go and try yourself...
