Ristorante La Fermata is a modern Italian restaurant nestled on the fringe of a village in the charming Piemonte hillsides outside Alessandria.The converted century farmhouse is tripped back to museum-like minimalism; almost a neutral canteen vibe warmed with engaged, friendly service and seriously good Piemontesi eating.Notable highlights included the onion cooked in salt with a moreish cheese filling, which is the stuff of the best comfort food. The traditional Alessandri agnolotti is refined pillows of stuffed pasta with a meat filling glistening in a butter sauce. A veritably smooth potato gnocchi shingled with gossamer courgette slices in a prawn broth is sublime.
