I stumbled across this place at a vegan block party last weekend. They had the longest consistent line. I didn't get a chance to try them before I left so I made sure to make a visit to their restaurant. Let's just say I've been twice this week already
Such a nice experience food was absolutely delicious. We came in and placed a large order and they got it out so quickly but you could tell all the food was made fresh. We didn't realize but they were literally 10 minutes from closing (as a former server I was so embarrassed when I realized) but they were still super accommodating. Absolutely delicious food, great service and my omnivore husband loved it as well.
This place is a great addition to the few vegan options I have locally. The Sunday menu is my favorite so far and the wings they serve are good. Staff is very friendly and approachable. The food was always worth the wait the two times I’ve been there so far and I plan to come back especially on Sunday’s for their soul food plate. They are just starting out so I can’t wait to see what else they’ll create for their menu.
Edit: Just wanted to say I give this place 1 star, but Happy Cow won't let you give less than 2 stars if a place is exclusively vegan. But that's dumb. An all-vegan restaurant that kicks you in the nuts when you walk in would get an automatic 2 stars. Stupid policy. This restaurant didn't kick us in the nuts, but it did take 1h45 minutes from us, miss part of our order, give us really small portions, produce food that tasted awful, and oh yea, as HollySeibert's review indicated, they shoved a forehead-scanner thermometer in our face the moment we walked in after waiting outside several minutes for them to come out and let us in through a locked front door. I get that COVID-19 has changed things, but good grief! I don't like to hate. I will keep this short: 1. 1h45min wait time for food ordered in restaurant. No explanation for delay, no offer of discount, and the owners disappeared into the back for 90% of that time. I know it's just the two of them doing everything, but no communication about delays was nuts. 2. They didn't give us one of the items we ordered, didn't indicate that they didn't give it to us, and when we got home and called to indicate, they assured us they didn't charge us for it didn't offer a receipt so who knows? and that they just ran out of that item shouldn't they have told us that in store so we could have ordered something else? Isn't that like... Business 101? 3. Portion sizes were tiny, like European sized portions but they were charging full price. If we'd gone to the Indian place in town we would have gotten twice as much food for the same price and all vegan too. 4. Food was b l a n d . Got punil that was just canned jackfruit with no flavor at all. I spit it out and threw it away. Fried plantains were three liiiittle strips of barely fried plantains and only about 1/4 of a full length of plantain. Beans in the rice and beans were dry. Another person got pancakes and they were 4 tiny pancakes about the size of Silver Dollar pancakes at Friendly's that were super dense and unflavorful. They also only gave us one little tiny thing of syrup. Shrimp and chips were obviously just a bag of ore-ida French fries from the freezer section warmed over, not crispy at and store bought vegan shrimp that were fried. Food was just bad all around. I had really high hopes for this place: black owned business , vegan, soul food... What could go wrong? But baby, it went wroooooong. Updated from previous review on 2021-02-06
