Soonta - Adelaide

Have had their bun bowls and banh mi's, both of which are excellent. All of their meats are great and tasty, and their traditional salad dressing is to die for. There is usually a long line during lunchtime but service is speedy so you won't be waiting for long. Unfortunately, the serving sizes have gotten noticeably smaller over the past few months and the prices have been jacked up. My friends and I often comment that we're still left hungry after a bun bowl, even though we used to find it quite filling. The serving sizes can also be quite inconsistent - some servers will give noticeably less meat and some bowls are filled less than others. We used to be regulars but definitely have not been coming as often as we can find a more filling meal for the same price elsewhere.

A colleague got me a salad bowl for lunch and it was a great change from the usual lunch time options. The herbs and sauces are what make these salads great, along with generous serves of good quality meat.

Excellent rice bowls and great katsu chicken. Good bahn mi too. Don't bother with spring rolls or vego options as only very average tofu/mushroom mix available. **Also peanut allergy warning as they don't store their peanuts separately from the other condiments.

I used to eat here weekly if not more. Unfortunately the prices have been steadily increasing while the serving sizes decrease. You can tell this by both the weight of the bowl and the fact that when Soonta first opened a meal from there would easily get you through the day. Now the dreaded 3:30pm hunger tends to strike. I also find the staff are not great. For example, when I was there just before the lunchtime rush today there were three staff members studiously ignoring the small line of customers (I actually do not know what they were doing) and just one serving. The price now is much harder to justify and I will probably only return if I cannot be bothered making a decision about another lunch place...

Soonta used to be an all time favourite places but consistency from one store to the next is lacking and just depends on who's serving you as to how much filling you get. These in inconsistencies have let Soonta down and after this week I don't think I'll buying from them anymore. The chicken was super fatty and I had to pick it off the chicken and to top it off I didn't get much chicken to start off with and my salad was smaller than usual - have I mentioned inconsistent. Such a pity Soonta. You used to be a 5/5 but no longer, sorry. I am frequenting your competition now.
