Drinks, thank goodness , were served promptly (including a generous jug of water); food (the set lunch for one of us, pizza for the other) took a little longer (there was an event being catered for at the same time). When it came, my companion 's squid starter was piping hot; plump and juicy squid with a crisp, crunchy coating and tasty dipping sauce. His beer battered fish was equally good, and yes, the chips were proper good too. The peas had been tarted up with mint and the tartare sauce lived up to expectations. The only downside was my pizza. I 'd seen the huge wood-fired oven and in my excitement, gone a bit rogue (I 'd never normally choose pizza) seduced by the woody smell and the promise of truffle honey amongst other things. However my heart sank when a piece of chilled dough was sliced off a bigger lump, squeezed through a mangle and yanked into a vague round, scattered over with toppings and shoved into the fire. The result was as expected; an unyielding, dense crust (no time allowed for the yeast to work its magic). The excellent chilli oil I poured on top went some way towards lifting things but if we return I 'll stick to what they do best and leave pizza making to those who know how.
The best fish and chips I've had in a while. V crisp batter, and boiling hot and fresh. Lovely minted peas too. Homemade tartare sauce with little chopped onions parsley and tiny capers, delicious. The duck fat hash browns for £5 were are quite small in portion, but my boyfriend enjoyed it very much. The dessert was tasty, nice vanilla ice cream, but the date jam on top and ?hazelnut and date puree didn't add much. Keep it simple with the sponge sauce and ice cream, and the praline tuile was tasty and crunchy. Service was generally v efficient and friendly esp the girls but we had some issues with drinks. Asked for a lager shandy for boyfriend and had to ask again as my wine arrived before. As a result we were charged twice for it (as we had to ask for it again) and I didn't notice until I reviewed the receipt when I got home. Price of a large glass of wine is nearly £11 which I think is slightly excessive given a small 125ml is £6 ish, a 175ml not much more at 7-8£, so the issues with drinks have knocked one star off.
My family surprised me for my 60th birthday and I can honestly say it could not have been any better, the food was amazing ,we all had various dishes from the menu and all of them were plentiful and delicious, such a great combination of freshness and diversity, the staff are fantastic and very attentive the whole experience was a delight, thank you so much to Mark and kay and the white Hart team
Amazing food and an amazing place! A cosy little pub on the inside with a fabulous outside area with the option of shelter in an delightfully decorated conservatory! I was so caught up enjoying the food I only took a picture of my new favourite beverage!
This is my favourite places to eat. Staff and surrounds lovely. The only downside that there isn't a disabled toilet but I was warned about it before I booked. I can't praise the food enough and very good value for money.
