Went with a group of friends. the service was very quick, the servers happy to explain when we had any questions. the food was very good, do not get tempted with to many her gau or su mai - try their whole variety.
It's hard to find anything near hwy 400 so we scouted something as close as possible. I tried their website but not working. But decided to try because it was convenient. We went on a Thursday noon and was seated immediately and used the usual dim sum menu to check off our usual favourites. Everything was fresh, timely and oh so good. The har gow was plump with plenty of shrimp as were the shrimp fried spring rolls. The garlic Chinese broccoli was blanched and saute perfectly. My caucasian friend even commented it was a highlight of the meal. We tried a couple of desserts..the almond milk with black sesame and mango tapioca pudding. The waiter told us it would take 10 minutes which was worth the wait. The service spoke both Chinese and English and attentive. A nice touch was the hot sauce and mustard already on the table..we didn't have to flag down a waiter for it. It's a little pricier than downtown Chinatown but the service and quality of food was worth a few extra bucks. We would definitely go again!
We came for a special occasion with a relative out of town. I recommended this place because I remembered their foods being affordable and quick. This time around, we only ordered about 6 things because we already ate at home but I wanted them to have a dimsum experience, yet the food came out extremely slow. It was one dish at a time. By the time we would finish one dish in about 10-15 minutes just picking at it and eating, finally the next one would come. There was no one else inside though, we were the only actively eating table at the time yet orders were so slow. Usually dimsum should be a table full of food to pick and choose from. This dining experience ended up being like fast food, one thing would come at a time and we had to just awkwardly sit and wait for our next dish to come out forever. Won't be returning to this location's dimsum anymore.
I've been to two other Asian Legend restaurants - One on Finch near Leslie, another in Scarborough and now this one in Markham. There are some dishes that I regularly order - deep fried tofu, soup-filled dumplings, etc. These are fairly typical of Shanghai Cuisine. I am quite satisfied with Legend's diverse offering of dishes. They included a credible General Tso's chicken and fried green beans with dried shrimps. The chicken was a request for my young friends (two 14 year olds who are not familiar with authentic Chinese food, and who think that sweet and sour chicken balls are the only thing they would eat). We were a party of 5 and everyone left happy and full. What more can I ask for.
