We had veg thalis and half way thru we could make out that they lost their touch. The entree was a very oily banana dosa, oily sabudana dosa and oily something else so we didn't have an appetite by the time the main couse started which was a piir selection of veggies- beans porial and the other two were some root veggies deep fried. We had to ask for curd. There was only one poor mans dessert. We had asked for gongura mutton on the side and it was really stringy meat. To be Grand Bay and not beibg particular from where your meat comes from is not worth it.
The service is excellent. Polite, well-informed chef who insisted me to order fearlessly as he would prepare a gluten-free meal for me, separately. The food was good. My husband loved the crab. I loved the thali and its multiple component Katori with vegetable preparations. The appam was absolutely delicious. The ambiance, the silverware, the hospitality- it will make your day. It's pricey, of course! But it's worth the visit atleast once.
Despite of nice marketing gimmick about 5 south state Thali the restaurant fails to make impact. Food taste is average and quantity is poor. And to my shock these ppl don’t have white/plain rice in menu and when asked they will serve you basmati rice with local cuisines which doesn’t goes well with traditional taste. Noted that staff is very typical and judges it’s guests especially if you say you are veggie. Food menu has limited options for veg ppl and not worth to the cost you pay. One can easily switch to Novotel as a much better option for the same rates and have lavish food time. All good you can find is the renovation work which is beautiful.
On 1st Jan I booked a table for 3 as I couldn’t get a reservation for buffet. When I reached the hotel, they directed me to reservation table. The service was definitely slow, considering that it’s 1st of Jan we gave them benefit of doubt. Our order was pretty simple. But they took more 15-30 mins to serve. 1. 3 fresh lime soda with salt 2. Prawns stir fry not too spicy 3. Mutton curry with Garvey 4. Plain fried rice cooked with less spice 5. 3 chocolate ice cream’s That’s it. To my surprise for just 4 pieces of prawn they charged us 1100 which was not worth it. The dish did not look fancy nor it really required some special skills to prepare. After coming home, I had...read more
