Tommy?s is an all American restaurant chain with locations throughout McHenry county Illinois. The menu consists of pizza, hamburgers, hotdogs, pasta dishes, Submarine Sandwich, chili bowls, chicken sandwiches, Gyros, Philly Steak, Garden Salad, BBQBaby Back Ribs, Shrimp Dinner, and some of the finest roast beef sandwiches all of which are very good. Today I visited theWoodstock location at 500 S Eastwood Drive. The restaurant is clean and bright, with big windows letting in plenty of sunshine. The staff is pleasant and responsive to your needs. I ordered my personal favorite, the roast beef sandwiches, with greenpeppers and Mozzarella cheese. I requested my sandwiches be ?dunked? as that?s the way I prefer it. I also ordered a side offried onion rings, and the order was takeout. As all ways, the meal was GREAT. Growing up in Chicago for most of my adult life,I have enjoyed roast beef sandwiches from Al?s Beef, Buena Beef, and Portillo?s and Tommy?s ranks up with them. The sandwich wasBIG and satisfy my hunger appetite even though I skipped breakfast, and it was nearly two P.M. I eat at Tommy's because thequality is consistent, price is fair for what you buy. and and the food is good. Tommy?s is my favorite American food restaurantsince moving to McHenry county some 15 years ago.
I have visited this restaurant multiple times for their gyros, hoping to give them another chance. However, during my last visit, they forgot to put tomatoes on the gyro and the meat was barely warm when I got home (only a 2-minute drive). Paying $27 for two meals that were not made properly was disappointing. This experience was not an isolated incident as they have consistently forgotten something during all my other visits. I have decided to stop eating at this restaurant.
I was hoping for a Chicago-style hotdog joint experience, but it fell short. The gyro combo was decent but not exceptional. The kids had burgers, which I tried, and they were average at best. The turkey sub was a good size but seemed plain. My son mentioned that Subway is better. The fries were bland. Overall, I felt like I could have made these items at home for a better price. Sorry Tommy, just being honest.
I ordered a cheeseburger with fries, 2 pizza puffs, and an Italian beef sandwich. The cheeseburger was okay, the pizza puff was undercooked, and they forgot to add sweet peppers to the beef sandwich, making it very dry. I tried calling three times but didn't get an answer. I have always enjoyed the food here, but this time I was very disappointed, especially with the lack of response to my calls.
