The service staff were very attentive, and the manager was incredibly welcoming. The food was delicious and served promptly. I give it 5 stars and can't wait to come back!
My family and I were looking for a place to eat during the children's six-week holiday, and I received some emails with discounts. I noticed this pub, which was local to me, although I had never been inside before despite passing it many times on my way to work. I had no expectations for the food, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. We ended up visiting again within the six weeks, and my partner even went separately with a friend. The portion sizes for the starters were better than other pubs, but I found the adult meal portions to be a bit small. We enjoyed great prices and discounts during our visits, making it good value for money. The establishment is a decent size with a relatively spacious outdoor area. I appreciated the music playing, as many places don't have that these days. However, the toilets could use some attention as there was minimal to no hand wash available, which is not ideal for hygiene. It was also disappointing that children were asked to leave at half 8, so we decided to go elsewhere. Despite these issues, we plan to return as we enjoyed the app rewards scheme, fair pricing, and overall atmosphere of the restaurant.
A group of us decided to eat here. We did pre-book as we were choosing from the Festive menu. There was quite a good selection and good value for money courses for courses for The service was pretty good and...the meals were good too. I had steak and it was cooked to perfection. Will certainly visit again.
We have always loved visiting The Pilot in the past but were very disappointed on our last visit. The desserts were great but the main courses were mediocre at best. Our main concern however was the lack of adherence to Covid guidance, particularly on social...distancing. When we arrived there were men drinking outside around the entrance , the welcome station was too close to the entrance door to the pub which meant that people entering and leaving the pub came too close to those waiting to be seated, the staff did not wear any form of face covering even when delivering food, orders had to be made at the bar for food and drink and drinks were dispensed in the usual way rather than being delivered to the table and there were a group of men standing drinking around the bar who made no attempt to move out of the way to let others come to the bar to order. The staff member who served us had to tell the men to move. On a positive note there was hand sanitiser at the welcome station and the staff member who served us was lovely. We feel that table service , separate doors for entering and exiting the pub, face coverings when serving food and moving the welcome station away from the entrance a little would improve things massively and would not be difficult to achieve. We love the Pilot but will not visit again with our family at present.
This is getting worse. For the umpteenth time there has been no real ale in this pub, as it seems the manager can't be bothered. Sorry chaps but I'm not coming again, time to give my business to the Claregate. If the pub can't be...bothered with real ale, it doesn't deserve its customers. Much better beer half a mile down the road.
