The question I have to ask is where is the general manager. A family member who works here booked a table for 7pm as it is Father’s Day. On entry we were told no Sunday lunches and the Main Chef is not on site just a trainee and an assistant. I have to say I cannot fault the staff who were all pleasant, helpful and very apologetic. The food delivered was sadly inedible, chicken dry, burger also dry and triple cooked chips chewy. A lovely pub and lovely staff left to flounder due to the General Manager not considering the issues.
I’ve visited a few times this year and good and service was great! Sadly However today, the food wasn’t great. We had 2 haddock and chips with minted peas. Peas really cold and haddock really greasy. The burgers the other 2 had were nothing special but ok.The service wasn’t great, but worst thing was the waiter who delivered our food really stank of BO! Not nice especially in hospitality sector as hygiene is a must.I did mention this to waitress I thought was senior as I left she said ‘ I know’ and I said ‘ well you need to tell him, it’s not good, Good Luck’To sum up not notice smelling an arm pit when food is delivered taken away. How hard is it to wash and spray deodorant? We all sweat but seriously this was really pungent not nice.Lovely pub and atmosphere usually but this smelly chap ruined our experience. I hope this helps his future hygiene routine. Food choice wasn’t great, or that great for price and dreadful pong ruined main so we decided to skip pudding! So disappointing when u pay for a meal ur daughter is put off with arm pit smells not great for first meal out after lock down
We did not stay in the Hotel but visited this Pub on Monday night for a family catch up. Ordered two Haddock and Chips at around £15 per meal. Service was good and staff friendly but oh dear! the food was below average. Triple cooked chips were, as far as we could tell, reconstituted oven style frozen chips that were dry and all endy . We did comment to the waitress and she sent out some more fresh chips, marginally better but in no way, shape or form, lovely triple cooked chips. The Haddock was fried in a fatty, oily batter and the mushy peas portion amounted to about a tablespoonful.Wine was good but we won 't be back here to eat.
This is our local pub and we have been many times, usually it’s okay. Was not happy at all visiting during ‘eat out to help out’. We came twice. First time the food was pretty poor, dry burgers and the parfait was not great. But the second, most recent time was the worst and we are really disappointed. We came in at 8:20 with a table booked for dinner and asked straight away if we could order. Took about 15 minutes just for a waiter to come back and serve us. We ordered starters and had said we wanted to order mains too but just wanted a second to look at the menu. The starters just one garlic bread and one crispy squid took 20 30 minutes to come (the restaurant was almost empty). By the time they came the waiter told us that the kitchen was closed and we couldn’t order mains. No warning, and no chance to order even though we had previously said we were interested in ordering before the kitchen had closed. After that it took about 20 more minutes just to get us the bill. Really disappointed as we are regulars but the service was abysmal and left us with no dinner and little apology at 9pm. Don’t think we’ll be going back anytime soon sadly.
