When you're fishing in nearby Lake Hogue, there aren't too many places nearby to grab a bite to eat. We left for a bathroom break and found this little spot next to a gas station. The food was actually pretty good and reasonably priced as well. I had a catfish plate, my friend had a BBQ plate, and my son had a hot dog. I would definitely stop back by if I was in the area and hungry.
The dairy bar and hub of the community for decades, Dairy Shack (or the D-Shack, as it is called) is a traditional Burger Fris Ice cream bar with above average offers and a friendly Farmer clientele.
Have you ever been insecure where exactly you are? Yeah, that happened to me last week. I knew I was in Waldenburg — I mean, I was at the intersection of the highways 14 and 49, on a plot that used to be the place for grill from a trailer when I made the weekly trip from Jonesboro to Little Rock and back in the 90s. And the GPS said I'd land in Josie's restaurant. But the place was marked with several characters, and the entrance that was open was catty-corner under a big sign that said D-Shack. Bill Lawson had sent me the recommendation after I had an application for such on my way to northeast Arkansas. I moved to the restaurant, checked my messages and yes, there it was. The shield to the right said Josie’s, but the door was on the left. I ordered a Cheeseburger and Pommes. It turns out, unlike most places, there is no standard on the Burger settings. What I want to say is if you order a burger, you need to tell them exactly what you want. The sweet girl who took my order asked if salad, tomatoes and Mayo were fine. Sounds good for me. I got my tea from a milk crust on the table. I had a place in the small dining room area next to a door that had written “Josie’s” on it. I saw the place on my phone. I was at the right place. I was confused. I thought that was supposed to be a steakhouse? There were some people talking about riding bikes on the weekend, sitting on different tables and talking about half the room. I had forgotten how the dialect sounded in the area – with the flat As and elongated It from time to time. It sounds different from one corner of our state to another. The burger (a cheeseburger is $3,49) was juicy — I could make from the small fat spots that form on the paper under the burger. I opened it and took my photos. Of course, when Dairy Shack, it had American cheese on it, also the crushed iceberg salad and tomato slices that had been ordered
