We live fairly near to Kul Kup and drove by it for months before it finally opened. We were confused why a soft serve ice cream store would open one block from the always busy, always popular Dairy Queen. Plus, if they only sold ice cream, would it last year round? But, we figured there was likely more to their menu and something really special in store that would set it apart. Today we gave it a try. Disappointed. Nothing special, unfortunately. Their menu is pretty small and although some of the options looked interesting, the ones we chose were pretty dull in flavor. They had options that were as basic as a soft serve vanilla cone and others with more elaborate things such as macaroons and a piece of real honeycomb on the top. We chose a chocolately option called the Rocky Dessert. It features graham cracker crumbs, caramel syrup and Kit Kat pieces. The serving was small for a $6 dessert. And the Kit Kat pieces were large chunks that just froze in the ice cream so weren't very tasty. Their angle is that they sell organic soft serve. It tasted more milky (and so more authentic)? than Dairy Queen in the next block. And it was nice to see they use locally sourced milk and whipped cream from Avalon Dairy. But it was nothing special. My son said he didn't notice any dfference at all, in fact. The shop itself is clean and the staff who assisted us were pleasant. But it wasn't inspiring and not worth a return visit, unfortunately. Sticking with DQ.
