It was not clear that the restaurant was even open because normally the outside terrace is decked out with...seats, furs and a pop up bar too. On this occasion there was nothing out possibly due to the low season and poor weather. We were greeted like long lost friends and due to the oven being cleaned, were moved to a mezzanine area away from the smells of the kitchen. Auban was our waiter and he looked after us in a delightful way. Food was expensive as it always is at altitude in Switzerland) but his charm and care made it all worthwhile! We had the mezzanine all to ourselves and so it felt very relaxing indeed. Note a simple salad is economic comprehensive and easily serves two. And bread was provided with the lunch too. A real pleasure and a very comfortable visit indeed.
Very nice and effective service, merci Aubin, who really pampered us. We had cheese dishes with roestis, hamburger with very good bun and perfectly cooked meat, and delicious café gourmand (coffee together with a wide selection of little desserts). Lovely view on the Alps, right...when you exit the telecabine, one of the most beautiful terrace.
I took the Napoli while my friend picked the vegetarian pizza. We both enjoyed our choices. The place itself is nice, good atmosphere. Recommended.
I had an incredible and unacceptable experience today with the Maître d mentioned in another comment. I've been regularly taking breaks and lunches at this place with my family, because honestly the food is ok. As the weather was rather cold today, everybody wanted to...eat inside and the restaurant was full. Still we managed to get a table for person that we booked in the morning. After having placed the order, we had the surprise to see the Maître d , telling us I'm sorry to say so, but you only took a salad and portions of french fries, which is not a lot, and that I consider to be a snack. So I accept you today inside, but consider going to the snack section outside for the same menu if you come back another day'. The first time ever that someone challenges my right to seat at a table based on the predictable amount of the bill. Needless to say that we left the place after an argument (he continued to shout as we were leaving the place). I understood from his explanations that he had to serve many customers every day and I deducted that each table had to bring a reasonable amount of business. I will not go there anymore of course, so sad to see that customer service has been replaced with profitability, even is such a small restaurant...
I Went there on Saturday the the opening day of the skiing domain, in the intent to eat a goulash soup, which is my favourite while skiing. There were no waiters outdoors, so I went inside. The dining room was quite full, but, miracle,...there was a table of four, all empty, with no mention of reserved on it. So I sat down there. Big mistake! When I got the attention of the waiter, I wanted to place my order, but he only asked in a quite agressiive tone who asked you to sit there . Well nobody I replied. I didn't really expect to be guided to a table by a Maitre d' in a mountain restaurant! There was no mention of please wait until a waiter has attributed you a table He asked me why I didn't choose a smaller tale (there wasn't one in this part of the restaurant), but condescendingly told me O.K., you can stay here. Well I didn't. I left and will never return to this restaurant, although Villars is my favourite skiing station. I'll keep to the more popular and less snooty restaurant in the Bretaye...
