Le Ciel - Vienna

A real bargain for a Michelin-star restaurant to offer three courses, wine and coffee for just over 50 euros. Service was impeccable. The food themselves were average most of the time, leaning on the heavy side. Would love to see more original ideas from the...chef.

We ate here on a quiet week day at lunch time. The dining room is light and airy and decorated simply but it felt luxurious. The room was about a third full at the time, and we received beautiful and close attention throughout our meal....Staff were also very kind about my poor level of German! We had the lunch menu which is three courses with bread, amuses bouches and also mignardises at the end, as well as wine and a coffee. All for 53€, it is incredibly good value for what was on offer. While the entrées and desserts (as well as the bread and extras) were completely Michelin star standard, with delicate and refined flavours, I can't say that about the main. We had the Wiener schnitzel, which for sure was delicious and well done, but... It didn't felt special or creative, which is what I was hoping for here. In hindsight we should have picked the fish, but the idea of a Michelin starred reinterpretation of the Schnitzel was just too tempting. I still have a wonderful lunch here.

We were told this restaurant had a Michelin star . We have eaten in many and this did not deserve the star. The food on the Crystal Mozart river cruise boat that we were on was far superior . It was a Sunday night and I think we must have had the Z team. The first course was OK but it all ended there. Badly presented and certainly not noteworthy and the veal was so tough it was difficult to eat, how do make veal tough? We were refunded by the cruise company since all attendees complained

My wife and I had a lunch here. After seated and reading the menu, we realized there is a promotion called "grand lunch", which is a 3-courses set, €45 in total, inclusive of a cup of white wine, a cup of red wine and a coffee. What an amazing offer! Incredibly generous! Therefore, I ordered a grand lunch and my wife ordered a 7-courses. The 7-courses was much better of course, especially the deer and beef, definitely a Michelin-one-star. As for the grand lunch, the meal was as good as it could get and wines were superb, especially taking the price in consideration. Moreover, we ordered a cup of green tee and ice latte based on the recommendation from a young waiter, and the quality of tee and coffee were exceptional good. Both of us really enjoyed the meal in a 3-hours long period. And the waitstaff were professional, kind and always service-ready.

Visited with the bairn and extended family.The terrace is wonderful and well located, the perfect place for a warm summer night.There is live piano music and apparently the pianist has been the same since 1994. He was very talented and agreeable to suggestions. We thoroughly enjoyed this touch.The surroundings are beautiful and the tables are well distributed.Our waiter was very attentive and efficient. We were well looked after all through the night.The staff were very tolerant of the bairn and her cousin and went to great lengths to prepare them special dishes on request (why somebody would order "spaghetti bolognese" in a Michelin starred restaurant where you can be served a delicious plate of the most delicious grilled short ribs is beyond my understanding...but they were happy to accommodate). The matching wines to the menu were all Austrian and a credit to the sommelier, well chosen and really highlighting the local produce. We were not disappointed at having chosen to dine here and definitely would recommend this restaurant. The dishes were very modern and well presented. The flavours were adventurously combined but certainly worth trying.The cheese selection was lovely and again highlighted the local produce extremely well. All in all well deserving of the Michelin stars it bears and proudly highlights Austrian products. Would certainly recommend to try if in Vienna.
