Our favorite is the ginger and green onion style. Don't forget to also order other delicious dishes. My Taiwanese mother-in-law is always on the lookout for authentic Chinese food in Toronto, and she absolutely loves this place. It definitely meets her standards for quality Chinese cuisine.
We were struggling to pick a restaurant in Chinatown as this one looked so busy thought it might be worth a shot. The service was a bit chaotic with everything coming out at different times but the sizzling chilli chicken was amazing though the...sweet and sour chicken balls were a let down plain battered chicken with a tiny bowl of sweet and sour sauce
Was visiting a washroom and noticed that the waiter did not wash the hands after usage of the toilet. Beef balls were raw inside and I felt bad after them. Sesame balls were tasty though.
New Sky was recommended to us and we had been wanting to try out this Spadina landmark for a while. We had no problems getting a table at 6:30pm and the place was inviting with nice yellow linen tablecloths and uniformed wait staff. We were...readily greeted and seated and given menus. Hot tea arrived pronto and was gratis. In addition to a substantial regular menu there were also separate menus featuring Chef 's and House specials as well as Fixed Price menus for small groups as well as for party size groups. We had googled the menu before leaving home and were intrigued by the fact that there was a Peruvian/Chinese menu. We asked about it and were given the separate menu without further explanation. The menu offerings were in Spanish only. We could make out that the dishes seemed to mirror those on the regular Chinese menu so we inquired about the salt and pepper squid and were told that it was different from the one on the regular menu as it was not spicy . We decided to give it a try. We also selected the beef tenderloin sizzler from the regular menu as well as a Cantonese Chow Mein and an order of rice. Everything arrived very quickly. Fresh and nicely presented. Our complaints were with the Peruvian squid which was unmistakably Chinese..........we have had salt and pepper seafood many times and this dish was no different. The dusting of batter was quite heavily MSG flavoured. The tenderloin sizzler was passable but the meat was quite tough. The dish was drowning in onions with a very small amount of green peppers. The Cantonese chow mein was the most disappointing. It was skimpy on vegetables and had less meat/seafood than could be counted on one hand. It was nicely flavoured though and less greasy than others I have tried. The rice never arrived but we didn 't miss it either. Made it onto the bill though but was removed without any issue when we pointed it out. There were clearly several regulars in this restaurant and that is usually a good sign so we may give this place another try later. It had many more items of interest including some nice Hot Pot dishes. However, if I could give the wait staff a tip I would mention that perhaps they should pay a bit more attention to first time customers : perhaps they would have at least ensured that all items ordered were provided had they not devoted all attention to regulars and none to anyone else. The price point is definitely reasonable even inexpensive. I would say about 10% lower than comparable restaurants in the neighborhood. Price for two with one glass of house wine came to $60 tax and tip included.
We had a hankering for some Chinese food so we decided to check out China town. We just came upon New Sky and decided to give it a try even though it looked full. Luckily our wait was very short and were seated within five...minutes. Our waitress was very friendly and we settled on spring roll starters, crispy beef with sesame, honey garlic ribs and steamed rice. The food arrived very quickly and all in all it was really good. The spring rolls and ribs were good but the crispy beef was really delicious. That coupled with the good sized portions and the really reasonable prices made this a really good choice for dinner.
