Allan and the staff greet us like long lost family, and on each of our visits something good happens, because they go out of their way to make it special. We didn't know they would shut early to celebrate The Year of The Rabbit, but they graciously let us in. The food was made fast, and tasted amazing. The texture of those mushrooms has to be experienced to be believed!! The kids had their usual stir fried veges with extra sauce and I had the Taiwanese Style Pork Stir Fry. Portions as usual are really generous. And did I mention, really tasty? On our way out each of the kids was handed a hongbao with a generous amount of money in it. Their eyes were as wide as saucers. And it takes a lot to impress the YouTube generation!! It was totally out of the blue. As are all the other generous gestures we encounter on each of our visits. I love the rustic street market ambiance and often forget that we're in Sydney, because whenever we're here, we're the only non Asians eating here. I can't recommend it enough. Allan and his mum are the most gracious hosts. I wish I was allowed to give it 20 STARS!!! We'll definitely be back and we are forever raving to ALL our friends about Mother Chu. She deserves our support.
From the greeting to the food, all was top class at Mother Chu's Taiwanese Gourmet. The Glutenous Rice Roll with Pork Floss and Soy Egg was delicious. The fried pork dumplings, plump and moist. Taiwaneses style pork noodles had a lovely flavour. The greeting and service was friendly, efficient and prompt. Highly recommend.
Chance upon this eatery on a cold evening. Ordered their noodle soup and fried bee hoon. The food tasted great, a homecooked taste like my late mum used to cook. The soya bean drink was especially good.
3.5/5 When in Chinatown, visit Mother Chu for affordable and good Taiwanese food. The restaurant has been operating for a long time, and it’s struggling more during the pandemic. I vividly recall the bustling scene of Mother Chu many years ago, before covid, and other competitions entering the market. I revisited the restaurant recently, filled my stomach with many dishes, and was warmly welcomed by the staff.
Never having had Taiwanese before we enjoyed our soups. I had the wonton soup that was so tasty. Just make sure you wait until it cools down a bit as the wontons hold hot soup inside the wrapper. We loved the prawn and pork dim sims that were made fresh so they come out in about 15 mins. Unfortunately we decided to share, so order 2 dishes, as they are just a couple of mouthfuls each. Service was very efficient, professional and friendly.
