Riverside Fish - Stamford

My wife and I have enjoyed lunch here on a Friday foryears and always enjoyed it, it is after all only a fish and chip cafe but it is all done well, the fish is cooked well and the batter is the best that we have had from any similar place, the chips are spot on. Staff are pleasant and efficient. What more can you want from this type of establishment?

We decided to eat here after seeing the restaurant had won awards, Our expectations were quite high because of it's reputation but we were very disappointed. The food was ok, not terrible but definitely not up to award winning standards, We had haddock, cod and a pie all with chips and mushy peas, We asked for large mushy peas but were given probably the smallest pot I had ever seen. I also ordered a coffee which was advertised on a menu inside with a list of about or different coffees,and was asked by the server, "do you want a black one or a white one This coffee was by far the worst coffee I have ever tasted. About of the way into the cup I got a mouthful of what seemed like rubber bits, I'm not sure if the milk had curdled or something but it was truly disgusting. The service was just plain awful. From the moment we entered it seemed as if we weren't wanted and were being a nuisance by wanting to order food. We were not greeted with a hello or a smile and no eye contact was made when we were ordering. When I did order my coffee the younger server went to make it in the back and then just slammed it down on the counter in front of me and walked off without saying a word. The food was just average but the customer service was so bad that I will definitely not be going back again.
