The food is good but the prices have really gone up. The menu choices and the hours have really gone down. Oh- and they have a liquor license??? Why on earth would you have a license when you are only open for breakfast and lunch? Are that many people having alcohol with their lunch? I wouldn't say no if my friends want to go there but I wouldn't choose it myself. And I was very upset with chaz1200's story. REALLY!!! WHY CAN'T THE PAYING CUSTOMER GET WHAT THEY WANT?? Chaz- I'm glad Whimpeys welcomes your business.
We just couldn't believe our ears when my wife and I wanted to SHARE an order of fish & chips. The waitress told us that "SHARING WAS NOT ALLOWED" so after hearing this I asked to speak to the manager. After arriving at our table, he RUDELY confirmed this INSANE policy and was UNWILLING to provide us with our request. On that very note, we got up from our chairs and left the 877 Talbot Street location....for good....and have NEVER GONE BACK!Although this restaurant has an "all you can eat" fish and chips special on Friday, we were there on a quiet Sunday afternoon when it was not available. Our first intention was to order the amazing hamburger entree which included fries and coleslaw for a very reasonable $5.00. However, to our dismay, the new menu price for this meal had more than DOUBLED to $10.99! After that disappointment, we then decided to split the two piece order of fish and chips which was on the menu for $13.99.This extremely stubborn and unaccommodating manager insisted that we purchase TWO separate single orders of fish and chips that would have cost us $11.99 EACH! First of all, we didn't want all the fries and we certainly weren't going to be FORCED into purchasing TWO meals for nearly TWICE THE PRICE! Along with the fish and chips, we had intentions of getting something else but he wasn't willing to BUDGE on his very short sighted CASH GRAB!It's a SHAME that this so called manager has absolutely NO CLUE about customer relations. The restaurant is a nice bright place and very clean with good food, friendly and efficient waitresses and an amazing breakfast menu. We used to be regular customers who highly recommended The Open Kitchen and brought a good number of our friends and family with us until this rotten incident happened. But now, everyone we've mentioned this to is appalled and most have vowed to never set foot in the St. Thomas location!A few months ago I decided to write a similar review directly to the Open Kitchen's website but still have heard absolutely NOTHING as far as an apology or any resolution to this matter. It's unfortunate to see a good place like this operated by someone that counts the cash instead of the customers! As it ended up, we shared a similar two piece order of fish and chips across the road at Wimpy's for just $12.99. They had no problems with sharing and were more than happy to provide us with a second plate!Charlie & Janis,Port Stanley
Our party of eight had a nice dinner here after a hockey game at the nearby arena. The service was great and the staff was very friendly. The wait for everything was very minimal and the portion size was impressive.Everything was very clean and tidy with no issues whatsoever.
If you are hungry the portions are huge and the prices are great! The service is great we had the eggs and bacon others had the waffles..coffee was great too!
