Two of us had the gnocchi as our main which whilst was nice, the portion was more entree size. Luckily the third person had the chicken which was fantastic and more than enough to give us some as well. The duck and fig entree was a good dish, the oysters were not shucked properly and some difficulty was encoutered in eating them.
Luxembourg brings a little European style sophistication to the top end of Fitzroy Street. We visited with another couple on a warm Friday evening. Service was attentive and knowledgable - wine advice was provided to guide us through the diverse list. The menu is limited in options but based on our sampling (anchovy starter, parfait, flounder, steak au poivre and vanilla napoleon), high on quality. The fish and steak were both perfectly cooked and flavoured in a more traditional French style. The parfait was to die for. Wine choice proved to be good too. Although priced slightly on the high side, Luxembourg is a place we will return to. Recommended.
Amazing!! Degustation is exceptional and the BREAD is scrumptious. Made on the premises. Start with oysters and champagne...
We wandered in on Christmas Eve at 9.30pm - most places had already closed, but were were welcomed in and enjoyed a memorable meal, great Steak Pomme Frites - one of the best we have ever had. A well matched wine suggested by George and 2 superb salads. I have been working on recreating the cabbage and fennel salad with honey dressing, it was memorable and so far mine is a pale imitation ! Great decor, great place. Thanks for a delicious meal, we will be back next time we are in Melbourne.
Sometimes you wonder why it's taken you so long to visit a local place. Last night we were asking ourselves that about Luxembourg. This is a French restaurant with a distinctly modern Australian feel. It's open and spacious and located directly opposite the southern end of Albert Park, so it even benefits from a green outlook. From the start, the service was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. No pretentious staff here. We started with sparkling water. We expected to pay the normal horrible premium but when the bill came, $5 per 500ml bottle wasn't as crazy as some we've been charged. And the prices for food were similar. Yes, it's in the premium bracket, but it's affordable premium, not "mortgage your house" premium. So back to the food. Entrée we had snails and beef carpaccio. Both were divine. The snails (texture is like bocconcini if you were wondering) in garlic and parsley were served out of their shells in their oven hot plate. Great presentation and great fish. The carpaccio was offset by the saltiness of the anchovies. If you like anchovies, this one is for you. Mains were duck with boudin noir (black pudding) and flounder la meunière. We said after the dishes that if we weren't so full, we'd order another one straight away. The flavors, the textures and presentation was all spot on. Wine suggestions were terrific and the bread was great, as was the company.
