I tried the ribs and the roasted vegetables and both were delicious, so while I agree the food may be a little on the pricey side, I'd rather pay more and be happy. Two small things: 1. There is no wine list, so the waiter/owner has to run through the list and you have to ask what the prices are. I HATE that--why not list the wines and prices on the chalkboard like the rest of the menu? 2. The waiter/owner was a little arrogant. When we asked to see a couple of bottles he described, he initially declined on the basis that none of us would know them because they were private imports. We insisted, and surprise, surprise, one in our group was familiar enough with the regions to make an informed choice. Somewhat insulting, but I would still go back again.
Subway is supposed to be the same everywhere you go I used to frequent this store every weekI left the area for about 6 months.
Nice cozy restaurant with great ambiance. The menu is offered by type of protein. So you can choose between meet, tartare, chicken, boudin, pig, etc but you don't know how it's prepared. They will explain everything once the plate is served which is an awesome idea. They are also very attentive with allergies.
I went with my friends yesterday. Food was ok. but apparently overpriced. The service,if they actually had one, was terrible. We were two and stopped by for a quick dinner, without a reservation. The service guy refused to seat us at a table without any explanation, when the whole restaurant was almost empty with only one table occupied. We sat at the bar and natutally waited for a menu. But it didn't come. So i asked if I could have one. The server pointed at the blackboard and said that was all they had to offer, as if everybody should have known that they don't have paper menus. And then he asked:"you don't speak French and do you understand English?" Yes I do speak French, not much but enough to handle a menu. And all our previous conversations were in English so i really wasn't sure if i understood english or not. After that we ordered a porchetta and a steak, both were ok but clearly not worth the $. Meanwhile the server/bartender made himself a cocktail and chilled a bit. Even after we finished, the place was still half empty. I asked why i couldn't just sit at the tables. The guy was like, oh we had reservations and you should have told me that you were here for a quick meal. It would be nicer if you asked? All in all, this place is a weird combination of fancy smokehouse and cheap bar. The hipster servers clearly have a issue of clarifying their job responsibilities.Won't come back again.
The idea of a smokehouse was really appealing. They have the right decor, a small place that can accommodate roughly 20-25 people. It is cozy, warm and quite interesting. However, there are issues holding this place back:Presentation: The main courses are not much to look at. For instance, the contre-filet plate has a sliced piece of meat in the middle that was clearly not rested enough (tons of pooled juices from the meat in the plate) and absolutely NO embellishments. I mean, even a nice boiled carrot, a few small potatoes and some form of greens could really help the presentation. Especially on a 20-25$ plate. The taste was not too bad however there was quite a bit too much gristle to make it great. The same goes for pretty much all the main dishes: expensive and with only the protein, nothing more.Portion size: The mac and cheese side is amazing. The issue here lies in the fact that 9$ will net you a portion the size of a small to medium-sized apple. Either the price should come down or the portion should increase.Quality: Not all meals were of top quality, especially at this price range, I can easily net a good 3-6 course meal in this price region instead of a sad empty-looking main dish (comprising of only a meat portion) and a side. The brisket is tasty, but far too chewy to be appealing (due to meat cut quality and/or preparation). If the owners are reading, my recommendation would be to change up the formula a bit by having a price where you choose a main dish and side and this would essentially be all served in one plate with a few more garnishes. The portions need to either be increased or the prices should be more in the 20-28$ per head range for most offerings. Also, there is a little finesse missing in both presentation and preparation since some of the dishes are either incorrect (should not have a pool of blood with properly cooked/rested meats) or not that well done (chewy brisket, too much gristle on the contre-filet). But on the whole, some dishes are simply amazing and become lack-luster due to a combination of portion size, presentation and/or price range.I invite you to try the mac and cheese, the cornbread, the chicken but I would have expected a smokehouse to be top-notch in the meats department and that simply is not the case at the moment. If you are prepared to have an overly-expensive (roughly 34-60$ for a main-dish, side and a drink per head) in a nice environment with good music and a slightly rustic feel, then by all means, come here, otherwise, I would advise waiting till they fine-tune their formula somewhat to get it right, they have potential and I sincerely believe they can really be a hit with some changes. My takeaway from the evening was: "fun evening, but expensive and the food did not add much to the enjoyment".
