The Anvil Inn - Scarborough

The food at this restaurant is excellent, and normally would deserve 5 stars. However, our evening was completely ruined by the chef having a tirade similar to Gordon Ramsay, using profanity against a young staff member. This outburst was loud enough to be heard not only in the restaurant but also in the garden. It's unfortunate that our evening was affected in this way. Such behavior is better suited for television, not in a real-life setting.

We decided to give the £10 burger deal a try (we actually showed up expecting curry since that's how it was advertised on the website). Unfortunately, we were disappointed as it turned out to be just a basic burger in a bun with some chips, nothing more. It felt like a school lunch. However, aside from that, the pub has a nice interior and cozy outdoor seating areas. We plan on returning to try the main menu on another occasion.

We went to this restaurant with friends while staying nearby. The main courses were mostly delicious, but when I asked for blue cheese on my burger instead of cheddar on burger night, it seemed like a big deal. Most of us enjoyed our main courses, but we felt like the landlord was constantly watching us from the bar and didn't engage in any small talk. The desserts were all priced at £5.50, and while the apple crumble was good, the Sticky Toffee Pudding that the rest of our party ordered was disappointing - dry with very little toffee sauce. I have worked in pub restaurants for years and have never been treated the way the waitress was treated here. It was clear that she had to stay in the same spot by the bar until she was 'allowed' to do her job, and she seemed afraid of him all night. Overall, our evening was ruined by the oppressive landlord, so I would not recommend trying this place.

Friendly staff and excellent food at a fair price. Booked to ensure we had a table as can get busy especially in the restaurant. Dog friendly in the bar area. Would visit again if in the area

Went on steak night and the food was lovely as well as being a bargain. We were a party of 4, so two had steak and the others penne and a burger. We also had sweets which were delicious. Only in area for a week otherwise we would return given the value for money and tasty food.
