This was my first time trying Poutine, so everyone recommended that I come here! Our server, Hally, was fantastic and very helpful in guiding me through the menu and suggesting what to order.
This restaurant offers a cozy ambiance with spacious booths, plenty of tables, and a lively staff. It strikes a balance between being a restaurant and a pub.
New on Broadway Avenue and such a welcome addition. I ordered the fish and chips with light batter and it was. The cod tasted so fresh and really complimented by the beer taste in the batter. Saw many plates pass by and each looked amazing. Prices reasonable and value for dollar. Kids at lunchtime so it was very cheery. Server was so welcoming and thorough knowledge of menu items.
This is a cozy spot, with large booths, lots of tables and some really fun staff. It straddles the fence between restaurant and pub. The atmosphere is light-hearted and relaxed, we've never felt rushed. The audience veers towards those in their 30s, but generally, attracts laid-back people of all ages. Their drinks list is great for a boisterous night out with a group of friends and enjoying one too many. The food has much improved in the last few months, it seems they gave the kitchen staff a shake up. The offerings are really well-executed comfort foods: pizza, sandwiches and melts, burgers, fish and chips, poutines, tater-tots. If you're going to the Burning Beard to enjoy a meal you are better off doing so when it is relatively quiet. Food can be disappointing when they're busy, possibly because the kitchen can't keep up. However, when it's a quieter time the food is always spot on. We particularly love the pizza: a doughier crust, with a slightly sweet tasting tomato sauce that reminds us of the childhood pizza we used to love, but made better. Then, of course, to mainline childhood cravings like a hit of heroine, they make mac 'n cheese pizza with pepperoni and bacon. The only thing missing is an episode of Looney Tunes or Thundercats as we eat it. The calzones are one of our favorite things because the crust is so good. Burgers are unpretentious and deeply satisfying. One could easily demolish just a plate of fries without anything else. I love the use of tater-tots as a base for great toppings in place of nacho/poutine. It satisfied a craving we didn't even know we had - another childhood love prepared for our more grown up grease-craving gluttony.
