Restaurant Gabriel

I took a group of 30 people for lunch at Gabriel knowing it is never easy to please a group and that conflicting demands are a challenge for the skills of the chef. At Gabriel I need not have been apprehensive and we were delighted with everything. The Norman cuisine is served with a flair which does not betray its roots. Creativity, authenticity and quality of ingredients were in abundance and the wine list is carefully balanced with the menus. Go to this place you will be delighted. You may choice a la Carte or the Menu or be adventurous in letting the chef creating your own meal with the fresh seasonal products of Normandie. Congratulations to the chef and his wife for this great evening.

Lovely Normandy restaurant, fairly close to my sisters home and about 20 minutes from Giverny. The Restaurant Gabriel looks “French” from the outside but more Scandinavian modern in the inside with one large room with 60’s wood and Formica tables. Though the room is large it is quite and somehow manages to feel intimate with 60-70s music playing softly in the background. The service was impeccable and the presentation very pleasing to the eye. They promote the products of the region through local producers so everything is fresh. We were each served a delicious cold green pea soup served in a parfait glass. I ordered one of their Menu options, they have several along with a few Ala Cart options. My starter was a shrimp cocktail, again presented beautifully and very tasty. My pork dish was divine and presented on a bed of an incredible chopped mushroom dish. My menu included the appropriate wine accompaniment, which was the only disappointment of the evening – light not full bodied. My sister ordered the filet mignon, again the presentation was lovely however she found the meat touch (she thought it fresh beef rather than aged). Her starter was an absolutely fantastic Foie gras. My brother-in-law’s selection was the steak tartare which he said he would order again. Another lovely evening in Normandy. Price range 30E to 75E including wine.

Fantastic meal well worth a try, for me the best in the area. Not expensive good value for money, very clean and modern. Good fast service with very attentive staff. Will be booking there again soon.
