Each course was a new and surprising combination of flavors the best dishes we've ever had. The price was very reasonable considering the quality of the food and complimentary items provided. We cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.
A lovely terrace facing the countryside for an excellent meal here; chef really knows his stuff (trout fillets and asparagus were sublime). Highly recommended.
We travel the world to appreciate good food, and although we love France and stay several months here, we have to admit that French restaurant food is some of the worst in the world. What a pleasure, therefore, to discover this unpretentious restaurant serving delicate and extremely flavoursome food, using fresh local ingredients and with excellent service. Here, none of the pomposity of similar fine dining restaurants inthe area. Unfortunately many French people want overloaded plates of food, with no importance given to the quality of what is on the plate. For those who appreciate finer food and not the typical grills and salad usually served in France during the summer months, then this is somewhere we would truly recommend. Please do not be put off by the decor as renovation is a work in progress the chef/patron having bought the hotel only last year. We shall return!
We 've been going to this restaurant for 20 years for anniversaries, birthdays, all our celebrations and we 've loved it. But the owners sold up and left in early September 2013 and the new people simple haven 't got a clue. The food is bad, the service is nervous, slow and sloppy and where have all the little extras gone? The bread had been reheated so often that it was hard as rock. The foie gras had horrible little strings in it. There was no butter with the rolls, the main courses all came with the same depressed mushrooms and no other garnish or veg, the steaks were overcooked, the cheeseboard has been replaced with pathetic little plates of cheese, so there 's no choice, no grapes, no thing with the cheese, the desserts looked and tasted like cardboard, the wine was frankly bad, the water was warm, No garnishes, no chocs with the coffee, no decorations on the desserts... mine was even bought in rather than made on the premises. We were sooooo disappointed. But we should have known, the minute she started wanting a show of hands for how many want the liver, then? And for this we paid 60 euros a head.
Our hotel receptionist pointed us in the direction of Chez Maurice and we were glad he did. The staff were welcoming and spoke to us in English and French (i was trying! . Lots of local people eating here, always a good sign. The food was delicious and very reasonable. We enjoyed it so much we went back a second time!
