85c Bakery Cafe San Diego (university Town Center)

It was a sunny, slightly hot day and wanted to grab a fresh drink and something sweet. There was a short line. Inside the cafe looked a bit busy, the bakery on the shelves were organized. The cashier was kind. I ordered a medium iced Jasmine green tea and a slice of red velvet cake since I'm a fan. Thought the drink was alright. I was a bit disappointed that the red velvet cake was not moist, it was a bit dry. I would recommend other locations of 85 degrees. Overall, it was ok.

The coffee bun, marble taro, and garlic bread were delicious. Wish they had more meat selection.

Not all locations are created equal. If this location was my first experience I don 't think I 'd have gone back. The Balboa location is our favorite one due to outstanding service and we go every day when we 're in SD. We happen to be at Westfield UTC mall and wanted a matcha latte. The service was poor and we had to get a different drink which wasn 't great either. We asked for a sea salt matcha latte without the foam/cream because it 's the sea salt cream that we don 't want. Two guys at the counter and one of them makes an irritated face with an attitude to match and seems upset that we wanted the drink without the cream. Once I confirmed that 's what we wanted. I also asked if they could put just a little extra vanilla in it. He said it doesn 't come with vanilla. It 's my understanding that it is sweetened with vanilla to begin with and that 's how we order it every time. So I politely asked if he could just add vanilla then. As he is now more irritated, he says we don 't have vanilla then reaches over to grab the vanilla syrup bottle with a pump and turns it upside down to show us that it 's empty. Half tempted to just walk out, we decided to try the strawberry Matcha. It tasted watered down and no matcha flavor at all. We didn 't try any bakery items because we only stopped in for a drink so I can 't speak on that but as I passed another patron they mentioned that the bakery items here are not up to par either. So it 's pretty safe to say I won 't be going to this location and we 'll just find another drink spot at the mall since there are many to choose from in the area.Adding pic from their site showing vanilla syrup as an ingredient in the drink.

Everything was good, nothing was particularly amazing, but the prices can't be beat and the staff was friendly.

Obsessed.I love 85C, and Will go out of my way to get some of their foods. Hoping they open more locations soon :
